Air conditioning just scratches the surface of the HVAC divide. Nine out of 10 brits smell of mildew because their homes are dank. Walk into an open-plan office you're struck with a blast of fungal growth and not the good kind.

if i'm one of the countries long pushing for closer EU alignment (balkans and eastern trio) i might be a bit salty at this new "associate member" status #WesternPrivilege

Love the charity events with team costumes that would raise more money if the team just donated the money they spent on costumes 👍👍

Target is a flexible control range of 1%–3% to actively seek maximum sustainable employment btw. Curious!

Interesting that Tiff just said "Inflation is too high" at 3% in the first Q And in the 2nd Q, he said he is not too worried about immediate inflation effect of counter tariff as they mostly focus on intermediate goods. [yes, i have a graph to tell you that]

Seeing more and more people refer to the national budget balance, revenue position, etc. as "The fisk". Gotta categorically, unequivocally and relentlessly nip that Sorkinian cringe in the bud.

This is incredible, and well worth two minutes of your time.

The A's just did one of the coolest things I've seen in their broadcast: Just unfiltered audio of the live director calling a Lawrence Butler plate appearance...that went about as well as they could have hoped for.

Saw a seagull eating a pigeon outside of an office building then a lady walked out and puked in her mouth and turned around and went back inside.

AI a growing misery in tax authorities. Correspondence, disputes, appeals a mess. We've gone from a handful of well-known sovereign citizen cranks to universally empowering every taxpayer to dispute every assessment. Effort to formulate cohesive thought in an email used to dissuade most...

Biggest problem is most are well-crafted enough on surface they can't be dismissed out of hand by front-line and blocked from advancing through commissioners process, even though they fall apart under any informed scrutiny as being based on foreign law/non-binding authority/complete hallucinations.

Need to hire more front-line, senior staff to deal with it. Need to hire more in-house counsel, advocating counsel (was an FT column saying AI would lead to *more* demand for lawyers describing exactly this). More public funds. More socialising the downsides of America’s 👐 hyperscalers 👐

Saw a tweet that you can bring back dreaming as an adult if you lower your caffeine intake. Gave it a shot. Two observations: (1) wow totally works (2) why the hell did i want to do that dreams are horrible i'm waking up three times a night with feelings

and not to bring this whole thing back, but most people can get to a 1 in dreams so it's clearly a capacity in brains that perhaps some people (not me) really can invoke while awake.

Most of it is just auditing and merging work that has been done previously. But one change goes a little deeper, it repairs broken labels that StatCan sends down. And emits a warning to notify the user that labels were changed. And it has a surprisingly large blast radius...

Current status: Implementing a downstream workaround in the cansim package so that data columns are accessible without users having to go to monkey-patch special characters into strings. Tired of responding to package users running into this. But really, StatCan should fix this on their end.

is part of the reason groceries are so expensive that we're treating animals nicer? cause it's getting harder and harder to find the cheap abusive stuff, especially chicken.

Maybe not cows though. It's getting harder and harder to play the cow game because none seem to be out grazing anymore. Beef in feed lots, dairy in those zero-graze indoor systems, and all the other 100-acre farms gone cash crop. Maybe most small beef farms displaced to prairies wide and free.
