I’m very excited to share the first big project from my PhD (my first proper-first, yay!) where we use cryoET and a fun new flavour of CLEM to study the re-organisation of photosynthetic machinery of cyanobacteria growing beyond the red limit of light. doi.org/10.64898/202...

At the memorial symposium in honor of J. Craig Venter of the @jcvi.org they had an event on the Midway Aircraft Carrier. They had a nice display of Venter achievements / pics on the walk to the deck. I made a gif of some pics I took.

Huge congratulations to all three Nobel Laureates, and especially Peter Hegemann! 👏 His seminal work on the green alga Chlamydomonas 🦠 laid the foundation for optogenetics. Thank you for putting Chlamy in the spotlight! ✨ Proof that groundbreaking discoveries don't always come from animal models! 🔬

I had a great time at this conference last year and now have the pleasure of helping organize the GRS. I would encourage colleagues to apply and spread the word!

Anthony Vecchiarelli@cellforganized.bsky.social

Applications are now being accepted for the 2027 Bacterial Cell Biology & Development GRC, June 6–11! GRS will be on June 5-6, 2027 We’ll likely be oversubscribed, so please apply early!

“Bacterial growth is straightforward to measure, complex in origin and exquisitely sensitive to environmental and genetic perturbations.” Fantastic opening sentence to a deeply interesting topic. Never thought about bacterial growth like this before. #MicroSky #Bacteria
