RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

I am certain these pics of a white tailed kite being harassed by a red winged blackbird embody a lesson about #AI and #Math or #Physics or #Biology. I just do not know what that lesson is. #birds

There's an interesting and dismaying timeline here, in which the company, the FDA and USDA identified the problem weeks ago but no public recall of the tainted chicken wraps was ordered by the government. The information they've shared appears to be due to excellent reporting by @usatoday.com.

foodsafetynews.comPublisher's Platform: USDA finally on the record; names Trader Joe's in E. coli outbreakNaming the product cost the government nothing on Oct. 23. It would have cost nothing on Sept. 23.

Yes and I don’t see the point of turning a photo of my shelf of jam jars from over 10 years ago into a 3D animation. What a waste of resources.

I have been getting a LOT of text spam pushing CA prop 38 and this is just a reminder that that is happening because prop 38 is designed to give some rich dude's pet institute four billion dollars

READ THIS: This billionaire’s initiative would very likely send $4 billion to a nonprofit that he founded. The nonprofit is supposed to lead California on health research. However, it only had three employees last month, despite agreeing with UCLA to have more than 50 by last year. My reporting:

calmatters.orgThis institute could get $4 billion from a CA ballot measure. With just three workers, is it ready? If California voters approve it, Prop. 38 will direct $4 billion to one research institute. Only one institute currently qualifies for the money.

Absolutely NO on Prop 38

Katie Wilkinson@drkwilkinson.bsky.social

I'm usually 100% for new science funding but a definite NO on Prop 38. There are plenty of currently functioning Immunology labs at CA universities and biotechs that should be able to compete for state money, not just a billionaire's institute with no currently employed scientists.

If California voters approve this proposition, half of all the money would go to one research institute. That institute's and its principal funder contributed $61.2 million to persuade voters, vs the $8,800 from those opposed. Solid work by CalMatters. calmatters.org/politics/ele...

I'm a doctor and a dad. I rebuilt Detroit's health department, led Wayne County's Department of Health, Human and Veterans Services. We put glasses on kids, took on corporate polluters, eliminated medical debt. It just shouldn't be this hard to get by in the richest country in the world.

The science research institute that would likely receive $4.2 billion in public taxpayer money if voters approve Proposition 38 this November had only three employees as of last month — far fewer than the 51 staffers it planned to have hired by last year.

As a publicly funded biomedical researcher, you might think I'd support California's Prop 38. But no. It appears to be quite the boondoggle. Here's one (of a few) solid bits of reporting on it.

As a biologist, I'm strongly against Prop 38 here in California. It makes no sense for billions to go to one unnamed research institute. Vote no.
