Post-doctoral fellow in global forest dynamics! TreeChange combines life history traits from field observations with demographic modelling to understand the future of forests and the carbon sink. Based at Lund in Sweden you will work with researchers across the world lu.varbi.com/what:job/job...

Upcoming information session on the StenglWyer Scholars Program, a great postdoc program in biodiversity science at UT Austin. If you are interested in participating through the Farrior Lab, please reach out before Nov. 1.

Iceland was the only Arctic country w/o mosquitoes. Now, thanks to human activities, they’ve made the leap. In a new editorial in Science, UT Austin biologist Amanda Koltz warns of more changes to come and calls for more Arctic research. doi.org/10.1126/scie... @texas-ib.bsky.social

The U.S. Forest Service is closing 57 of its 77 research facilities in 31 states under a reorganization plan announced this week, threatening science that looked at how wildfires, drought, pests and global warming are putting pressure on forests.

This needs attention. Suzanne Simard threatened legal action against a journalist asking critical questions. This is not how science works. Brave of @aislingirwin.bsky.social to report.

Journalists have in general failed to probe her scientific work. That is why she was astonished, and threatened legal action, when I asked her critical questions during an interview for this piece www.nature.com/articles/d41... @georgemonbiot.bsky.social

I'd like to put together a starter pack of early career ecologists (self defined), who are or would like to be active on BlueSky. I'm putting out a 'soft call' here, to see who'd like to be included in the initial group, before formally launching Reply if you'd like to be in the initial group!

You are up to date.
