This is going to come across as pretentious and unhelpful, but I really recommend reading books. Reading a book is the only thing I do where I feel like I'm nourishing my attention span, rather than sanding it down. The trick is to just read whatever you enjoy — not what you feel like you should.

Film you've watched more than six times with a gif. I have many, but I'm gonna choose one that holds up

Physghoul 👻 🎃@physgal.bsky.social

Film you've watched more than six times with a gif. hard mode: no star wars, star trek, lotr, dc, marvel, disney, pixar, dreamworks, spielberg, cameron, wachowskis, or ghibli. (like it's hard)

I'm glad to see the world hasn't completely given up on the concept behind the discontinued Choco Taco

Andrea @ LBX 801@andreademonakos.bsky.social

Just had my first Tacolate (a collab from Salt & Straw and Taco Bell) and I think my tastebuds might be forever changed. Cinnamon ancho chile ice cream are you kidding me??

Cool finding. I also like that the post makes it sound like there are institutes filled with full-time "velvet underground researchers." I'd like to live in that reality

jesse jarnow@bourgwick.bsky.social

velvet underground researchers have apparently confirmed that this audio from a random youtube user is genuinely the long-lost july '67 performance from upbeat, a cleveland teen tv show, doing the unreleased "guess i'm falling in love" complete with screaming girls. www.youtube.com/watch?v=GU2U...

I gotta say, I wouldn't have clocked these for being from 1895 immediately after Roentgen's discovery of X-rays. I feel like the field of medical imaging moved pretty slow for the period after this.

The Public Domain Review@publicdomainrev.bsky.social

#OnThisDay in 1895, Wilhelm Roentgen discovered x-rays and altered the course of medical history. Pictured: images from one of the 1st series of x-rays ever produced (just 2 weeks after Roentgen published his discovery). More here: publicdomainreview.org/collection/e... #WorldRadiographyDay

As a fan of the em and en dashes prior to the explosion of its use with ChatGPT, I'm conflicted. One one hand, I am happy others will now use this helpful punctuation; however, I don't like that people view it as a signal that GPT was the source of the writing.

Finally fulfilled my dream of owning a 1952 Topps card with this Larry Doby gem. Sharing it on Jackie Robinson Day because Doby was the second African American in MLB, following Robinson. Both legends broke barriers, inspiring us toward equality and inclusion. #JackieRobinsonDay #LarryDoby

Pub alert for a paper written in collaboration with Mike King's lab where we used focused ultrasound to mechanically stimulate prostate tumor cells in vivo, enhancing apoptosis. Congratulations to our brilliant team members, Abigail Fabiano and Malachy Newman, for their exceptional work!

Michael King@profmikeking.bsky.social

Excited to share our new paper using Focused Ultrasound to mechanically stimulate prostate tumor cells in vivo, now published in Advanced Science! #OpenAccess Great collab with @cfcaskey.bsky.social Congrats to Abby Fabiano and Malachy Newman 🔊 news.rice.edu/news/2025/ri...

I've been calling every day to see what our Republican Senators in Tennessee's official stance is on the NIH cuts and firings: Marsha Blackburn: (202) 224-3344 Bill Hagerty: (202) 224-4944 No word yet. The interns at Hagerty's office are friendly. Marsha's goes to voicemail

Happy to share our latest research on tracking tumor response in triple-negative breast cancer using ultrafast doppler ultrasound, paving the way for personalized treatments. Grateful for the amazing collaborative work with Shannon and the Rafat lab! 🩺🔬 #CancerResearch #BreastCancer #Immunotherapy

If you are a public servant (government/academic/research, etc.) or working on topics that are specifically under attack, I just want to say my heart is with you. Your work is valuable. You are valuable.

I'm trying *very* hard to not freak out (on public forums) about everything that is going to happen with this administration; however, if the new admin disrupts NIH funding, it will mean I have to fire people and/or change my career

Nsikan Akpan@monscience.bsky.social

NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research. Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions

Learning about imaging CSF *and* Japanese food. A+

Mikhail Shapiro@mikhailshapiro.bsky.social

What happens when you can take videos of acoustic proteins in 3D inside the body? 🧊 You can see things like the flow of CSF in the brain! 🧠 Congrats to Sunho Lee, co-senior author Claire Rabut, and colleagues on "Takoyaki" ultrasound. 🥟 #gasvesicles www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Back in action here and happy to be sharing this collaborative work with @rafatlab.bsky.social where we look at tumors with high frame rate Doppler

Rafat Lab@rafatlab.bsky.social

In our first post here, I'm highlighting our recently published paper in Theranostics! Grad student Shannon Martello drove our collaborative paper with the Caskey Lab at VUMC home to show how ultrasound can be used to non-invasively track tumor response to therapy: www.thno.org/v14p6883.htm

I think that we scientists and engineers can really benefit from working on art projects--big or small. There's something special about the uncertainty of feeling incompetent and playing with something that we lose as we become experts and perfectionists in our work

We have a no smoking policy at the med center, and my office exits to a good hiding place. It always cracks me up when I leave work and a grown adult cups their cigarette in their hand in shame like I'm a high school teacher busting them behind the gym or something
