Thrilled to finally share this work on how ultrasound BCIs function under the hood. 🧠
It was an honor working with Whitney the pièce de résistance of his PhD work at @caltech.edu
🧠Excited to share our latest ultrasound & neurotech paper @natureportfolio.nature.com
🦾 Our previous papers demonstrated the HOW of an ultrasonic brain-machine interface in monkeys and humans. This paper highlights WHY it works.
E11 Bio is excited to unveil PRISM technology for mapping brain wiring with simple light microscopes. Today, brain mapping in humans and other mammals is bottlenecked by accurate neuron tracing. PRISM uses molecular ID codes and AI to help neurons trace themselves.

New work from Alan Urban @openfus.bsky.social & team shows that functional ultrasound neuroimaging and neural spiking rates are well correlated.
[Recording with fUS and neuropixels...] "fUS images can be interpreted as a robust estimator of local spiking activity"
These results are ~consistent with the findings from @carandinilab.net & team in "Neural correlates of blood flow measured by ultrasound"

🧪 Transforming biomedical discovery needs proteomics that is specific and accurate, but also faster and cheaper
@parallelsq.bsky.social is proud to introduce 9-plex PSMtags: a new mass tag that improves sequencing and increases throughput in sensitive proteomics 👇
www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
We are excited to introduce ‘time’ as a new domain for proteomics multiplexing!
It enables:
-Label-free multiplexing
-Combinatorial multiplexing with plexDIA
Using combined 9-plexDIA and 3-timePlex we demonstrate 27-plex DIA 🚀
Increasing throughput in mass spec proteomics requires new ways to model the increased complexity of the spectra.
We are delighted to share JMod, our new open source software developed at @parallelsq.bsky.social , which enables new multiplexing approaches.

🚨 Forest Neurotech is hiring an EE Lead! 🚨
If you've shipped 3+ product lifecycles of small/mixed-signal devices, let's talk. We're looking for mission driven, high IQ+low ego. If you/someone you know matches this description, please reach out.
KJ Muldoon was born in August with a rare, life-threatening metabolic disease. Six months later, he received a Crispr treatment made just for him to address the disease-causing misspelling in his DNA. My latest for @wired.com: www.wired.com/story/a-baby...
Legislation proposed to regulate neurotech and neurodata has captured interest from state and federal lawmakers.
Bloomberg Law shares more: "The compliance costs [of] privacy laws could limit businesses to certain states or solely to the academic realm."
🧵 Today, IMPRINT, a pioneering new nonprofit initiative, is announcing $15 million in philanthropic funding to advance our work to decode the body's immune memory and uncover the causes of chronic diseases.

We have released VARS-fUSI: Variable sampling for fast and efficient functional ultrasound imaging (fUSI) using neural operators.
The first deep learning fUSI method to allow for different sampling durations and rates during training and inference. biorxiv.org/content/10.1... 1/
"Fungi and archaea represent some of the most fascinating yet understudied branches of the tree of life. [...] There’s little doubt that we’ve barely scratched the surface of their capabilities."
So stoked for this project from @cultivarium.bsky.social and @wellcometrust.bsky.social!
We're gearing up to tackle new kingdoms of life, thanks to generous support from @wellcometrust.bsky.social. Get in touch!

Noland calls his chip Eve.
“[...] God created Adam [and] Eve. I’m Adam, in this scenario, and Eve is my helper. Together they cursed humanity. Maybe I will do the same, with Eve.”
He shoots me a bright grin. “I don’t think enough people enjoy that joke as much as I do.”"
But still, history suggests structure matters. The Human Genome Project didn’t reveal everything about the cell, but it led to surprising tech that slowly transformed medicine.
A brain map could do the same for neuroscience.

📰 Featured in The Guardian: With support from ARIA's investment in precision neurotechnologies, we’re thrilled to announce Forest Neurotech's role in the UK’s first NHS clinical trial of an ultrasound-powered whole-brain interface. 🧠
"If you look at conditions like depression or epilepsy, [up to] a third of these patients just don’t get better. It’s those groups where a technology like this could be a life-changing solution."

I wanted to share my rationale for our recent comment in Nature BME proposing an application-based taxonomy for BCI (unrolled from LinkedIn):
Why we should consider labeling BCI based on its intended use.
