I'm so excited and honored to join @marcoroth.dev and @adrienpoly.com on the RubyEvents team! They've been so encouraging, friendly, and welcoming on all my PRs and Issues. RubyEvents is a beautiful application, and I love our mission! ❤️

Welcome @chael.codes to the @rubyevents.org team! 🎉 Rachael has been building new features, improving docs, smoothing onboarding, and spreading the word at events. She is all-in and also built MeetAnother.day, which shares our mission of connecting Rubyists. We can't wait to build together!

Abstractions and architecture make code easy to extend and modify. DRY is about domain logic, not lines of code. Agents and humans benefit from code that is designed to be extended and modified and is implemented in as few places as possible.

This week's guest needed to reschedule. I have a buffer, so I don't NEED to record this week, but I'd love to keep a consistent recording schedule so I don't accidentally burn through it. Anyone out there in the Ruby/Rails space up for talking about what they're working on?

Thanks for watching!!✨ And thanks to Planet Argon for putting together the survey! railsdeveloper.com/survey/2026?...

Welp... Got laid off from Podia today. Kinda a lot to process for a Thursday. I'll have something more coherent to say eventually. For now, send Ruby/Rails leads. Or dog pictures.... Both are good.

Today I pulled my bread out of the bread bowl, and I found a noisemaker, 3 balls, and 2 plates, and I asked myself, "Who put you here and why did they do this?!" and this is the exact feeling I have every day in vibe-coded repos.

The other thought being "I know I have to be the one to put these away at some point, but do I do that now or later, because I have to finish my breakfast and go to work."

I was hoping someone would ask me about the messy calendar, why I have a bread bowl and not a bread box, or the coffee, to which I would reply, "That's the legacy code I'm _aware of._ The plates are new." which is THE EXACT FEELING from vibe-coding.

I want to go to Disney after the conference! 🤩 Or maybe Universal - I haven't been to Epic worlds yet.

So I put a small site together. If you'd be interested in attending the Ruby Magic Conference in Orlando (hopefully late 2027), I'd love it if you'd visit the site and let me know: rubymagic.dev

This is genuinely incredible! Reactivity like React for humans, and simple, clean html for agents and low-bandwidth users.

Today is a big day for Herb! It's built into Rails 8.2 by default for all HTML+ERB views. My talk at #RailsWorld in Austin today answered three questions: What is Herb? What ships in Rails 8.2? And what does this enable? Herb v0.11 and ReActionView v0.6 released alongside it.

Bonjour Montréal 👋 We're coming to town this October 17! Who should speak at the conference? We’re looking for new voices. Maybe someone who dives into a deep part of a domain that Ruby helped solve, someone who has a story to tell that’ll make us think about our AI age, ...

This is 75% off, so it's literally $4!

Today is the 4 year anniversary of One Dreamer! store.steampowered.com/app/1156380/... This is a beautiful, atmospheric, story-driven programming game, and I'm honored to voice Chael, Frank's programming mentor. I loved this game from the demo, and I recommend playing it!

I try to make this a little better every month and automate it a bit more so I can spend more time on little details and customizations. I'm particularly proud of this edition. ♥️

I saw this at Blue Ridge Ruby and it had me in stitches from laughter, and then on the verge of tears. I can't wait to see it again at Rocky Mountain Ruby. ♥️

Welcome to Hours Unlimited. Meet powerfuLLMachine. (Plot twist: it's all actually about humans.) Kevin Murphy's creative reframing of agentic practices will change how you think about LLMs (and your team!) 🧑‍💻 rockymtnruby.dev/tickets

YES!! FINALLY!! I've been using the gh-image extension, but fetching the token is fiddly in containerized environments. Native support for attaching images is so exciting!

I spent a lot of time and effort building custom generators for RubyEvents event data only to have AI ignore them in favor of MCP tools and direct editing. I started to think about turning my generators into MCP tools. Carefully wrapping each one and invoking it.

therubyonrails.bsky.social@therubyonrails.bsky.social

I saw that happen earlier this year at RubyConf. Joining me today on The Ruby on Rails Podcast are guests Rachael Wright-Munn and Andy Andrea to talk about how it all came together. Listen here: www.therubyonrailspodcast.com/548

After an intense pairing session over lunch and dinner (and a great deal of excitement on my part) we had a working PR to build RubyLLM tools out of custom Rails generators!!! ✨ github.com/rubyevents/r... We did a few revisions after, but these are live on RubyEvents, and they work great! ✨

Feeling a sense of validation as event after event (@xoruby.com) people pull me aside a tell me they haven’t been able to go to a conference in years for one reason or another. So many parents, caretakers, and otherwise location locked have been left behind.

YES!! I basically live on the Mutuals and OnlyPosts feed and now it's in the app itself. 🥰

v1.130 is live! Want to follow someone for their posts but not their reposts? Now you can — turn on "Hide reposts in feeds" for any account you follow.

I'm trying this out today. Maybe it'll help train the robots to write more ruby.

Going back to agents and making them write scripts in Ruby (which is just an excuse for me to share more Ruby code) you can just write this into a system prompt:

This week I spoke at @RubyConf for the first time. This conference has been a big part of my life the last 10 years so it was really cool to take the stage for the first time and share what I’ve been working on.

We love ruby events and we want to support their growth. These guides are a fantastic resource for new organizers and those looking for new ideas. Thank you to all the organizers who contributed, and @hansschnedlitz.com for putting these guides together. Welcome to the team, Hans!

RubyEvents Guides is now live. Over the last few months, I talked to Rubyists who want to help the community keep going. Some want to restart a local meetup. Some are organizing their first small conference. Some already run events and want to make the next one better.

I am so incredibly excited to see this! Organizing an event is incredibly difficult work, and this will make it easier for new organizers to get started! ✨
