Hire Drew before your competitor does and you have to sit through a meeting about why they're shipping faster.

Welp... Got laid off from Podia today. Kinda a lot to process for a Thursday. I'll have something more coherent to say eventually. For now, send Ruby/Rails leads. Or dog pictures.... Both are good.

A group of top-tier Rails developers I know and worked with (plus myself) were unfortunately laid off today. Any company would be fortunate to pick them up. If you or anyone you know is hiring, send me a DM 🙏

I would give my worldly possessions away to work with Drew again on an engineering team. Hire him. Or tell a friend. And have them tell a friend he's on the market again.

Hello, Ruby Friends! New episodes of The Ruby on Rails Podcast are going to start rolling out soon! If all goes well, the first new episode should go up next week. The podcast has a brand new host who is very excited to hit the ground running.

Made this last week as a bit of fun to tease Podia’s new branding on podia.com (just launched, pending acceptance by the DNS gods). This also marks our major pivot towards community features because, in this AI world, content is dead as a creator business model and connection is everything.

Forget the Gordie Howe Hat Trick, show me the Jack Hughes Hat Trick: Lose a tooth, take a penalty, win the game in OT.

I still think Guentzel over Caufield was a horrible choice. But at least it wasn't Bennet over Bedard. GM is gonna get some serious hate for that fumble

Sonnet 4.6 is def faster than 4.5 and I like that it’s cheaper than Opus but I feel like it’s not as good. I don’t actually have any hard data to back this up. It’s just a feeling. Has anyone else been using Sonnet and have thoughts?

Excited to see everyone tonight! Don't forget to RSVP if you haven't yet!

Tomorrow 🥳 @meg-gutshall.bsky.social will be joining us to break down the ActiveRecord Enums module! Don't miss out on this talk uncovering some of the "rails magic" 🪄 that you may be taking for granted. RSVP here: www.meetup.com/phillyrb/eve...

Are models degrading over time or are we adding a ton of unfiltered slop to an ever growing codebase which causes the model to start to struggle over time? 🤔

Bad news for Hockey fans 😢 (I guess good news for USA fans who don't get hockey)

Canada women’s hockey captain Marie-Philip Poulin has been ruled out of her team’s preliminary-round game against the U.S. at the Olympics on Tuesday night because of injury.

New Year, new episode! My friend @jeremysmith.co came back on the show to talk about @blueridgeruby.com!

🎙️ New Episode of Code and the Coding Coders who Code it! Episode 60 with @jeremysmith.co podcast.drbragg.dev/episodes/epi... #ruby #Rails #code #coding #coders #podcast #ai #blueridgeruby

This is very good news. Brandon is a very smart and diplomatic person who is _very_ good at calling people out on their shit. Looking forward to seeing what he can do on the board of RC

Had a great time listening to @kcdragon.bsky.social's Intro to Hotwire Native last night at Philly.rb! We're working on setting up some great speakers in 2026. We already have January setup (look for the announcement soon) and have slots for February and March open for anyone looking to give a talk.

RBQ Conf tickets go on sale today at noon. We’re opening Rare tickets a bit earlier and letting them run longer than usual, so folks can grab early pricing in the way that works best for them. Medium and Well-Done will follow later. Details: rbqconf.com#tickets

Don't forget to RSVP!

Next week is Philly.rb! @kcdragon.bsky.social is joining us for an intro to Hotwire Native. If you’ve been curious about taking Rails to mobile without going all-in on Swift/Kotlin, this is a great chance to learn how teams are doing it in practice. RSVP here: www.meetup.com/phillyrb/eve...

Jeremy Smith@jeremysmith.co

Long before the rush of nerves and excitement when opening up the doors on day one of a conference, there's the quieter (but no less significant) rush of putting 50% down on a venue for an event you haven't sold a single ticket for yet. 🥹

PAX Unplugged isn't even over yet and I can already tell I'm going to be sick 😞 not surprised just disappointed. Masks and hand sanitizer just isn't enough for this many people in close proximity.
