Engaging read on how the Bugs Bunny cartoon What’s Opera, Doc? was made. “To get the extra work done, Jones and his crew secretly shaved a couple weeks off other, easier films and faked their time cards. It was something they did on occasion.” [animationobsessive.substack.com]

What percent of Trump's ballooning debt do you bet we could pay off if we charged people $10 for each time they get to swing a sledgehammer at either the ballroom or the arch? I'd take the over on "the entire US debt."

There are going to be Democrats who say we shouldn’t rip it all out — it’s already built, we have other priorities — but removing the visible signs of Trumpism is absolutely necessary.

You can’t talk about debt without talking about how we got into a bad predicament, and there’s only one correct answer: tax cuts enacted this century

A King County Superior Court judge in Washington state has found that Kalshi’s trick of calling itself a “prediction market” doesn’t make it not gambling under the Washington Gambling Act, and has therefore ordered Kalshi to stop almost all activity within the state. Read more here:

This is a good summary of the status of the complex of three fires now being called the “Spokane Area Fires.” – About 8,000 acres and more than 600 structures burned – Autumn Lane (the most rural of the three fires, burning between Spokane and Deer Park) seems to be the most active this morning.

Today was a really tough start to wildfire season. We had near 4 wildfires erupt in the INW within the same 3 hours. I watched homes burn in Spokane County today. I am thinking of those people and the firefighters who stood there to do what they could. Here are some cell phone photos.

Hijacking this thread, I spend a lot of time thinking about what is the exact right climate for a fun summer. My view is that it is basically the climate of very high parts of Colorado. Very dry, up to about 75-80 and sunny in the day, and cool at night.
