To all my American brothers and sisters, I just read this line in a UK government report: “Home Office data shows that in the ten years ending 31 March 2025, shootings involving legally held firearms led to the murder of at least 39 people”

With my first self-representation at the upper tribunal coming up the following day, I’m excited to attend this event the night before If you follow me here, feel free to come and say hello. I’ll be the chap not in a suit (and tall + using crutches)

Here is the next Random Area of the Week (RAW16) superimposed on a satellite image. Note this sub-Area is in two disjoint parts that share a common constituency history. Perhaps you can identify where this is? If not, all will be revealed on Monday, along with snippets about its electoral past.

But, overall and as ever, shit rolls downhill. All sizes of not for profit are struggling. And, while I don't think it is healthy for a UK business area to be reliant on another country's national expenditure, massive changes to that expenditure have a ripple effect.

Then the CICs start losing out on funding and there's nowhere else for them to turn They are more likely to not be financially viable and close down. But we don't notice that change so much on a national level because many CICs operate locally.

All three levels of not for profit listed above (multinational UK charity, UK charity, UK CIC) get a lower income. And the action each not for profit takes for its own self interest (inc. its beneficiaries) makes sense

But those smaller UK charities used to win those grants. And now their less likely to. So, they have to look for alternative funding routes and they start applying to smaller grants that CICs were used to going for.

But smaller grants don't cover their operating costs. Staff hour reductions, project restrictions, then staff redundancies all ensure. Maybe the charity closes (e.g. Directory of Social Change and Compaid; I was going to add Reach Volunteering but they appear to have secured funding, for now)

So, you hunt for UK grant making bodies and, with the size of your organisation you have the staff capacity to produce grant bids that may be more extensive and have better evidence than smaller UK charities

Larger UK charities are massively cutting back their shopfront operations: British Heart Foundation (100+ shop closures), Cancer Research UK (90 to close), Oxfam (<100 to close)

Can you revive a zombie river? Our cities are full of rivers that have been buried in concrete after industrial pollution filled them with filth. But there's a global drive to bring them back: to "daylight" these forgotten rivers. I had a lovely day out in Sheffield today, seeing it actually happen.

It's been 7 months since I gave evidence at the UKGov select committee hearing, on the policy changes at UKRI which have had a catastrophic impact on funding for UK astronomy and particle physics. When asked if we thought we were the "canary in the coal mine", we said yes..... we weren't wrong. 🧪🔭⚛️

I respect the bloke who believes lizard people run the world. At least he's committed. What I can't stand is the guy who repeats it, adds 'I'm not saying it's true,' and expects a medal for balanced thinking.

Do you know of any veterans or service personnel in Central Devon being chased by the DWP or MOD to repay supposedly overpaid benefits? If so, could you ask them to contact MP, Mel Stride, as he wants to hear from them. #DWP #MOD #overpayments #WPS #AFCS #CentralDevon #MP #MelStride

Pension layman here, but… The triple lock is a workaround for a state pension that's too low. Fix the level first, then index it honestly (maybe CPI, like the rest of the welfare system). If the level's right, you don't need a ratchet.

The problem of social care is largely one of a missing insurance market. The obvious solution is to pay for care via general taxes, treating these as if they were insurance premia. Cutting benefits or the triple lock are bad alternatives.

Yet another example of MOD civil servants hiding facts, reports and guidance from MPs Gutting to hear about
