What's hilarious about the Mbappé affair in Chinese media is it's universally condemned, featured in 3 out of Weibo's top 11 trending topics, but nowhere can you find out what he said. all that's allowed to say is "inappropriate comments", "hurt Chinese feelings".

China’s first AI-generated theatrical feature has flopped, earning just $181,000 in its first weekend. By contrast, the scrappy ‘Niu Lai’ turned its crude animation into a viral attraction, grossing nearly $10 million a couple of months ago. www.cartoonbrew.com/box-office-r...

and then asked AI to rank the reviews (.....). They also recruited 3 human editors to rank 10 reviews. Crucially the editors were not asked to read the papers, only rate the reviews. I can't imagine how reviews on papers can be rated on its own without actually looking at the paper.

"Well-written" reviews are not necessarily useful reviews. Personally some of the most useful, sharp critical reviews I received for my paper were not polished. they were often written more casually, a bit like "thinking out loud", but very insightful.

despite a difficult start (hedious post-viral cough + Durham train canceled; husband had to drive me to Darlington!), I had a blast at the book launch yesterday. Room was full, cough didn't strike during the talk, and I was joined by a stellar panel. could not have asked for a better company. ♥️

She posted about one short video every other day recording her life. social media might have been a rare source of joy and connection; however it turned out to be destructive when things go wrong. Platform violence is particularly brutal in small towns where "everyone knows everyone". The neg review

became the last straw for an exhausted street vendor, a mother who always cared for others and was rarely cared for. Ermei means "second daughter". It seems as if her parents didn't think she deserved a proper name. A heartbreaking story. May you get kindness and rest in the other world.

Her husband is invisible in this Southern Weekly reporting on her story. She had two sisters and one brother. She once posted on social media: "What is depression? Every day, except when I’m chatting with customers at my stall, I can't stop crying. I feel so exhausted." On her 32th birthday

she said her husband and in-laws didn't remember her birthday. Her brother, not unlike a typical only-son in a family of many daughters, said: "What evidence is there that she was depressed? She had never taken any medication for depression, by what right can you label her as depressed?"

The food she sold cost around 6 to 10 yuan (£1.12). She worked around the clock everyday, sometimes until 1am, just to make ends meet. Earlier this month an unhappy customer posted negative review about her stall on multiple platforms. More neg reviews followed. She killed herself 3 days later.

Horrible news. The annual labor report that he helped make is one of the few and the most important worker inquiries into proletarian conditions in China today.
