Thinking of when a patient showed up with a firearm looking for one of my colleagues. Healthcare workers: it’s worth asking your hospital if there is a non-firewalled link to your schedules out there.

Last week we revealed that dozens of hospitals throughout the country expose the live call schedule and cells of their physicians and medical providers. At a time of increased violence threats and harassment, experts said, that’s a significant security risk. And yet, most schedules are still live.

This is a terrific response, but they can go even further -- the weak attack on "communism" gives Democrats a great opening to call out Trump's massive cronyism and corruption.

“The fundamental choice is between a system where scientists make scientific judgments through accountable deliberative processes and one where political appointees make those calls instead.” In this cycle as both a submitter and a study section reviewer, these proposed changes are grim news.

“We built it around two tools: The Resource Guide is a trusted health navigation guide co-created with community members. The Community Guide is an app-based directory that helps Black patients find affirming providers who have been vetted through community experience, not just credentials.”

This is now the LOST generation for all doctoral research, from engineering to public health, from literature to psychology, from religion to economics. Some programs will suffer more than others, but this is a tremendous loss to the future. This is ALL on #RussellVought #DonaldTrump #JDVance.

I've seen a lot of demoralized posts (and emails) from people who didn't get into grad school this cycle. This was one of the worst cycles I've ever seen due to massive cuts to research funding, financial difficulties at universities, and technological disruptions.

Casey Means has gone on and on about her passion for getting healthy foods on Americans' plates. I hope one of the Democrats asks her what she thinks is the effect of cutting SNAP cuts and the Local Food For Schools program on low-income Americans' ability to afford healthy food.

"No application of armed violence can make the men with guns as heroic as the people who choose to stand in their path with empty hands in defense of their neighbors.

"These agents, and the president who sent them, are no one’s heroes, no one’s saviors—just men with guns who have to hide their faces to shoot a mom in the face, and a nurse in the back." -Adam Serwer, in The Atlantic

"Minnesotans have shown that their community is socially cohesive—because of its diversity and not in spite of it. Minnesotans have found and loved one another in a world atomized by social media, where empty men have tried to fill their lonely soul with lies about their own inherent superiority.

"Minnesotans have preserved everything worthwhile about 'Western civilization,' while armed brutes try to tear it down by force. "No matter how many more armed men Trump sends to impose his will on the people of Minnesota, all he can do is accentuate their valor.

"The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that they’re the ones who are alone. In Minnesota, all of the ideological cornerstones of MAGA have been proved false at once. Minnesotans, not the armed thugs of ICE and the Border Patrol, are brave.

Alex Pretti was a colleague at the VA. We hired him to recruit for our trial. He became an ICU nurse- I lover working with him. He was a good kind person who lived to help and these fuckers executed him. White. Hot. Rage.

The heartbreak is that we all know those nurses: the ones who don’t compartmentalize to the hospital, but are always caring for the people around them.

“I don’t like established science,” he said, adding “science is what I observe.”

I want it to be very clear that this doesn't just affect people with mental illness or addiction. It doesn't just affect their families, either. It will impact every single American with a decrease in quality of life, because the services that help people also buffer the community.

Esther Choo@choo.bsky.social

Deep cuts to addiction and mental health service funding through SAMHSA, another gutting of health areas that will cost U.S. lives. This is yet another tragedy that will be tremendously hard to bounce back from www.npr.org/2026/01/14/n...

I don’t use “tragedy” lightly. Do people know how hard it is to set up the multilayered efforts that allow us to claw our way through the fentanyl crisis alone? To get people to mental health services in this time? It’s *already* tough.

No one should feel scared to exist in this country. We need guardrails on DHS and ICE, and elected officials who will enforce them. In this country that I love, we stand up for our rights and each other. We can choose compassion over cruelty, and humanity over fear. #BeGood

I extend my deepest sympathies, prayers, and righteous anger to the loved ones of Renee Good, a 37 year old mother and American citizen killed by ICE. We should never normalize what is happening. We must do all we can to resist tyranny and hate — and to demand accountability.
