To celebrate being shortlisted for this award I've changed the access level on my "making of Skin Deep" post from paid to free. The game is one that has been percolating for almost a year, and suddenly came together this winter in a whirlwind of inspiration. www.patreon.com/posts/145546...

I'm tickled pink to discover that Skin Deep has been shortlisted under TTRPG/Visual Novel of the Year! Kinda geeking out here to be on the ballot with so many people whose work I adore! If you haven't checked out Skin Deep yet, you should, and you should vote if you like it! mothmother.com/games

Such a cool way to learn how to orient yourself within the very disorienting space of the Cursed Apple

I made a geoguesser style game for Deadlock! Look at screenshots from the game and try to pinpoint their location on the map. map-trainer.lloc.ca

Inhuman Conditions is a Voight-Kampff, Turing Test-esque social deduction game by Tommy Maranges & Cory O’Brien. We’re getting a live performative example in their talk featuring a bureaucratic interrogator and human-machine player. Are they human or robot? (Or something in between?)

Hypnogenesis is a video synthesis arcade game using recursive video feedback where images are fed back on themselves to create emergent visual behaviors. Andy Wallace & Allen Riley talk about how it’s part of alternative history of games coming out of Nam June Paik style video art & video synthesis

Pelicans using the shape of an ocean’s wave to fly. Ravens in a state of play is one of the greatest miracles in the world. @cabbibo wants to make a game about the embodied experience of flying in their psychedelic Bird Game

In @cabbibo.bsky.social’s Bird Game, the plane of the wing is the plane of each button which allows for emergent gameplay on the micro level with analog input. Steep learning curve but everybody flies in unique, identifiable ways! Experience the joy of failure through crashing

Thinking about the hyperlocal possibilities when the game is designed for a limited, trusted playgroup of loved ones. Defamiliarizes familiar domestic space and fills object with new meaning. Above all, brings much needed joy!

Had a really nice time at No Quarter at @nyugamecenter.bsky.social tonight. But I was absolutely gutted not to make it to the finals of @patricklemieux.bsky.social and @chouxsalad.bsky.social’s tournament with team @wonderville.nyc. Fierce competition and so much fun.

Although it's late in life, Deadlock is the first shooter I'm investing time in learning to play and I'm so excited that Malcolm is working on this project. The potential for both experimental play as well as training games is off the charts!

In October I got obsessed with importing Deadlock's map into Unity to use as a playground for coding experiments. Here's some pics from that journey!

On Friday I built a discord bot in a day! (Github link in final post) I've been playing Deadlock obsessively, and I wanted to have an easy way to reference items in a discord chat. When the bot sees mention of an item, it shares a link to it's wiki page and a screenshot of it's description.
