Look, I know all the reasons we got here, but we really need to start seriously thinking about what we do in a world where The Markets punish whole countries for voting for decency, compassion, and fairness. We must stop pretending the capitalist machine is an objective, value neutral force.

Lewis Wade 🗃️@wadehistory.bsky.social

It's very, very telling, I think, that the markets are so concerned about the pro-democracy incumbent winning

Obvious asterisk in 2015 when they inexplicably (but very much truly) cancelled the playoffs during the rain delay of game 6 of the ALCS and nobody moved on to the next round.

Danny@middaughsome.bsky.social

Most people don't know this stat. 100% of the teams that won the most games in a playoff series advanced to the next round.

I've worked with both Olivia Chow and Brad Bradford. Mayor Chow acts. Councillor Bradford is mostly talk. How can we expect someone to serve our city well when they've failed to serve their own ward?

When you’re safe, but feel unsafe, that’s not a political or policing issue, it’s something you should be talking to a mental health professional about

Clare Blackwood@clareblackwood.bsky.social

I'm betting that a lot of people who respond to polls saying they feel more unsafe in Toronto now are conflating the feeling of "I am physically unsafe and under threat in my environment" with "there was a homeless man on the sidewalk on my way to the Eaton Centre and I don't want to see that."

Replying to @bhaggart.bsky.social

Another question for the pile. If Canada isn’t even able to acknowledge the nature of security threat the US clearly poses, how is this willful ignorance distorting the government's overall military strategy, on which we’re now spending billions upon billions of dollars?

Why, it is almost as if this is the sort of blatantly unconstitutional anti-Indigenous horseshit we'd have expected from Pierre Poilievre. Summing up much of Carney's time as PM so far.

CHEK News@cheknews.ca

Indigenous communities along the newly-announced West Coast Oil Pipeline route were given just two months for consultations, and that was still more than the government initially planned. https://cheknews.ca/indigenous-communities-given-just-two-months-to-consult-on-west-coast-pipeline-1350891/

Avi gets it

Avi Lewis@avilewis.ca

The oil industry is unwilling to pay for this pipeline because even they know the world is moving away from fossil fuels. This project leaves Canadians bearing all the risks of a bad investment without any of the rewards.

Question for my fellow GenX-ers: what’s up with all the millennials getting ADHD diagnosis as adults and then using it as an excuse for being unreliable, rather than using it to figure out a way to be more reliable? I’m not expecting miracles, just something more than “Oh ya, my ADHD kept me from…”

Is it bad that my fortune cookie said “Something interesting will happen at work” and my first thought was “Fuck. It better not.”?

I hope whatever civil engineering firm lands this RFP is haunted at night by visions of the cyclists they'll be killing. I hope their iron ring they were given at graduation when they took an oath to the public starts to itch and weigh on their finger like an anchor.

EXCLUSIVE: Inside the contract to rip out Toronto’s bike lanes Spacing has obtained the RFP for the Ford government's bike lane removal, and it looks even worse than thought. spacing.ca/toronto/2026... #toronto #bikes #torontobike @cycletoronto.bsky.social

After having some time to reflect on George Springer’s last game as a Blue Jay, I think the most incredible piece of his legacy is that he managed to hang on to that haircut for the entirety of the contract.

Sorry guys, I just started paying attention to the game and Trey gave up a bomb. I’m going to go cut the grass and vacuum the pool now.

A Toronto baseball show called "A Couple of Joeys" INJECT INTO MY VEINS

Joanna@humandchuck.bsky.social

And Toronto media keeps platforming mid baseball players to comment on the team. JOEY VOTTO IS OUT THERE. SO IS JOSÉ BAUTISTA.

We don’t want to become the 51st state, so let’s jettison everything that makes Canada worth living in, like higher environmental and labour standards.

Toronto Star@thestar.com

The federal government tabled new legislation Monday to make sweeping changes to environmental and labour rules, in Mark Carney’s latest effort to remove what he sees as barriers to development in pursuit of his pro-growth agenda.

Keegan Matheson@keeganmatheson.bsky.social

Brett Bateman is leaving the game with an injury. He walked off himself, slowly, and just got help going down the dugout steps with his arms over the shoulders of the #BlueJays trainer and John Schneider.

The correct position is that we fall back 30 minutes in the fall and leave it alone.

Dale Smith@journodale.bsky.social

We'll see how many of these changes last a full year, after all of the complaints about it being dark until 10 AM in the middle of winter.

The fact that he views public assets as belonging to the government is the problem. They don't belong to the government. They belong to the public. They belong to us. Not the Liberals, not Parliament, not him. Us. He's a caretaker, not an owner.

Scott Robertson@sarobertson.bsky.social

PM Carney on the privatization of federal assets: "What we're looking to do with all the tools we have is to catalyze building of this economy. If there are some assets that the federal government has that can help with that process, we'll look at it as part of a comprehensive approach."

Hill reposted

Privatization wasn’t on the ballot when Canadians voted for Mark Carney. Really foul the way he’s using the blind trust so many continue to have in him to make massive, fundamental changes to Canada (hurting normal Canadians) so big companies can profit. Please pay attention.

If Anthony Santander falls in the forest does he make a sound

News: Anthony Santander is dealing with some lower back discomfort. He won’t play tonight in AAA. Same thing happened last year. #BlueJays
