ICE and other paramilitary federal cruel behavior is intentional. It is evident in the streets where agents have shot two dozen people, killing six of them. It is apparent in 239 ICE detention centers where the death toll has reached 59 during Trump’s second term. My blog via @commondreams.org

New York ICE Shooting Illustrates  Deliberate Policy of Harm and Medical Neglect | It is not normal for a democratic nation to institute this level of warfare against its own people.

Will Oakland City Council members commit to a police union contract that curtails abuses & protects the city budget? They passed a budget that defunds independent oversight while putting enough fat in the OPD budget to pay for a raise not yet negotiated. oaklandside.org/2026/07/02/o...

oaklandside.orgResidents hope OPD’s rampant use of overtime will be addressed in new police union contractAs OPOA and the city negotiate a new agreement, we spoke with residents about changes they’d like to see.

This should be a test for all the countries/teams that have qualified for the World Cup. They should all announce a global boycott of the Cup games in the U.S. This bully action by Trump should not be allowed to stand.

If you don’t know about this, you need to read up. It’s the single bloodiest massacre in the history of Reconstruction, and it was perpetrated to overthrow the results of an election. It was emblematic of the sabotage of Reconstruction. And SCOTUS nullified the prosecution of those responsible.

We cannot be silent or stop protests in the face of a global cataclysm. The people have bravely stopped or slowed the U.S. war machine before — from Vietnam to Reagan’s mercenary interventions in Central America, to Bush’s wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. My blog cidelson.medium.com/we-can-count...

Remembering Rev. Jesse Jackson. Civil rights champion, also a great friend of labor. Here, during the historic 1992 Oakland 7-week strike by 5 unions for sympathy strike rights, with RoseAnn DeMoro (r) then collective bargaining director of the California Nurses Association @CalNurses

What Rev. Jackson said to the strikers: “Your protest for dignity has been heard in this hospital and around the country.” Summit’s opposition to sympathy strike rights, he added, was “another case of corporate greed, arrogance and abandonment.” So little has changed today

The violence has escalated as Trump, Miller, Vance, and Noem seek to secure and expand their power through what they believe will intimidate and force consent for their authoritarian rule. But they are also afraid of the growing popular resistance. My views via @commondreams

If Trump is indeed pulling the odious Greg Bovino out of Minnesota, that should only be beginning. We all need to continue to step up the campaign to #AbolishICE and end its terror campaign and the escalating dictatorship. My views: cidelson.medium.com/weve-crossed...

Minnesota officials should issue an arrest warrant, seek an indictment and prosecution, despite federal obstruction and the coverup scheme to exonerate the ICE killer. This compelling video alone, added to multiple eyewitness testimony ought to be enough to present a case to a judge and the public

NEW: Senate advances a bipartisan resolution to block President Trump from using military force “within or against Venezuela” unless he gets prior approval from Congress. The procedural motion sets up a full Senate vote on the measure next week and is expected to pass.
