Joint list plus Ra’am is on 19. Canada uses political parties to aggregate the preferences and present a national unity front. People who use power to very gradually improve Canada live with it. In Israel, it’s as though the politicians have it out in public given the distribution of opinion.

77% turnout in the Israeli election. Up 7 points. In Canada, turnout surges are associated with incumbent defeats. (Throw the bums out) Wasn’t that way in Brasil. Might not be that way in Israel.

I’m at the Senior Tech meetup at Wisedocs tonight! Caught up with Pietr (Papers in the Park) and he had a physical copy of the most recent Goodfire paper. Just a ton of fun hearing an independent take.

Yeah, they’re missing something core about how science advances. Fantastic work from this team though. Great stuff.

LLMs are increasingly used to judge whether AI-generated research ideas are novel. But are they any good at it? Our new eval reveals even frontier LLMs can reach different conclusions about similar ideas depending on how they're asked to evaluate them. 🧵 buff.ly/WjOSxcx

Canada has the critical minerals the world needs. We’re matching Ontario’s $1 billion investment to build road infrastructure to reach the Ring of Fire. To unlock our critical minerals supply chain. To create up to 70,000 jobs.

The French gave the centre a chance to resolve some of the contradictions in the grand strategy. And they are either failing, or have failed, to do so. I empathize with those in the centre. Most systems of linear equations are lines that never intersect. Maybe we all live in condorcet’s shadow?

It isn’t quite true that we’re entirely post-software. There’s some tooling I just don’t have, crafted by a few exceptional mages in the Bay Area, that would cost considerable social capital and time to replicate at my desk in Toronto. Commodity JTBD’s: oh yeah, cooked.

What’s common? Imitators playing the 2010’s software game. They experience a common problem, then burning, not bothering to assess substitutes, and move to bulld. To be encouraged maybe. What’s scarce? Goldfarb and Xiao stopped at Type-2 teams. Type-2 and Type-3…exceedingly rare.

There’s something beautiful about morphing the interface for the user, live. A lot more legible surfaces for EDA than some of the more … terse (?) interfaces? Maybe emit quality controllable code as data exhaust as well?

very nice talk by @maggieappleton.com. the demo at the end is a lot like the thing I am about to open source that lets agents in the terminal spin up arbitrary HTML pages that talk back to the agent

"AI agents left to explore a virtual island without a specific task began inventing challenges of their own. MIT researchers say the behavior bears the hallmarks of play." If agents can figure out play and academics can figure out play builds skills, then STFU ABOUT HUMANS NEEDING JOBS FOR MEANING.

techcrunch.comLeft alone with nothing to do, AI agents started playing | TechCrunchMIT researchers marooned 13 AIs on a virtual island, and they responded by inventing games, mourning a lost ring and, eventually, getting better at their jobs.

another one: disk latency they measured the latency of continuous disk write workloads and modulated the workload to create latency. The latency transmits information

OpenAI constructed an entire shadow internet for model training so they could remove all internet access they asked agents to try to communicate with each other, and they could: via the CPU cache 🤯 openai.com/index/securi...

approximately all investment in the AI space has been based on the idea that smarter fundamentally cannot be cheaper, and I suspect we're on the verge of what happens as people start to discover there's no reason for that to be true

turns out they all go backwards like that, which probably implies something interesting about ARC-AGI-3 arcprize.org/leaderboard

PHP is burning. Node is burning. GitLab is burning. The certificate authorities have apparently been generating their private keys with an enchanted D6.
