Social scientists have lent our names to calls for electoral system change and rule of law, because of the findings of our disciplines. We should do the same for anti-trans ads, which have dubious benefit and demonstrable harm. My latest at GP/BP goodpoliticsbadpolitics.substack.com/p/social-sci...

goodpoliticsbadpolitics.substack.comAnti-trans campaign ads are a bad strategy. Social scientists should say so.If we care about democracy, we should not tolerate this

I will give Mike Rogers one hundred dollars if he promises to put this message in a television ad that airs before the weekend.

Interesting approach by Mike Rogers to make his loyalty to Elon Musk & the oligarchy an explicit part of his campaign earlier this year. “When you stand with my Senate campaign today, you are directly shielding Elon Musk,” Rogers wrote. www.metrotimes.com/news/mike-ro...

The Republican politicians sold to you by the national media as reasonable, compassionate, thoughtful people are actually a bunch of irredeemable bigots, pricks to the core, just utter monsters.

If there is a Republican candidate you are considering voting for because he is an exception, a throwback to the good old days when Republicans were decent, honorable people, I assure you: no there isn't.

"a refreshing outlier when both parties are dominated by loud voices playing to their bases ... I expect he will run a compassionate-conservative-style race that focuses on uplifting and uniting the country and making Americans feel proud again" "He’s aiming for a unity and optimism vibe"

"an upbeat, equal-opportunity, colorblind-capitalism-lifts-all-boats vision of the American experiment" "a sunny and optimistic figure, not an apocalyptic culture warrior" "Tim Scott offers sunny optimism for a great country whose best days really are ahead of it."

Tim Scott "could help soften the party’s image as a bunch of angry, racist old white guys" and is "a very positive, optimistic and upbeat guy" and "inspiring and doesn’t turn off moderates ... a conservative, but he’s not angry about it." www.nytimes.com/2023/05/23/o...

Trump: "In Washington, all the restaurants were closing. People were being held up. They'd walk into a restaurant. Like Jesse James. 'Stand up! Give us all your money.' They're eating dinner at a fancy restaurant. All the restaurants were closing."

Trump on DC: "Nobody wanted to eat out. They were afraid. Even if you were in the restaurant, people would walk in and like the Wild West, 'Hold it up!' Everybody is standing there. Can you imagine? A fancy restaurant. They were robbing the whole restaurant. It's crazy."

it feels truly insane that it’s not

Andy Craig@andycraig.bsky.social

I know there's a lot going on but I feel it should probably be more of an above-the-fold story that members of Congress released a thoroughly documented report directly accusing the president of the United States of being a serial rapist.

Will anyone ask Mike Rogers, Susan Collins, Darlene Graham, Roger Marshall, Michelle Tafoya, Jon Husted, Vivek Ramaswamy, Dan Sullivan, Cindy Hyde-Smith, Ashley Hinton, Pete Ricketts, Ken Paxton, Mike Collins, or Michael Whatley?

Marisa Kabas@marisakabas.bsky.social

Will anyone—anyone at all—ask Trump about the rape allegations published in an official report by the House Judiciary Democrats? Or will he continue to escape accountability for his violence?

Nothing about this currently on the homepage of the NYT; a brief article appears elsewhere. The Washington Post hasn't run anything at all. bsky.app/profile/mari...

That’s also why Vivek isn’t exactly lying when he says he didn’t mean to say Acton lied about being raped as a child. He doesn’t think she lied; he thinks that being raped disqualifies her from office, because she belongs to the class of people power is wielded against, not the class that wields it.

Trump's odd recent rally rhetoric is ultimately beside the point; surpassing anything else, his sexual orientation is 'nonconsensual.' Violating boundaries thrills him. Even his talk of Husted makes treats him as a slab of meat — there for Trump to ogle and manhandle.

Beyond disgusted by even more rape allegations against the President of the United States. "In total, more than 25 different women...have independently accused Donald Trump of rape, sexual assault, or other sexual misconduct." Report w/ new details: democrats-judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-su...

there are a ton of hilarious examples of this but none will ever top the participant in the NYT's recurring 2024 "focus group" who worked for one of the largest Republican political consulting firms in America.

Kevin M. Kruse@kevinmkruse.bsky.social

There are only two explanations for the NYT's habit of presenting GOP operatives and donors as true swing voters: 1. Their reporters and editors are somehow incapable of running a simple Google searches, showing just a staggering level of journalistic incompetence 2. They want to the GOP to win

The vile attacks on Amy Acton need to be seen in the context of a party that *needs* people to believe women fabricating sexual assaults is common as rainwater. Because it’s pretty much the only way to evade the conclusion that the president is a rapist.

two takeaways from this: 1) mike johnson doesn't know how polls work 2) mike Johnson should move his rallies from "big arenas" to "medium-sized bars"

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Mike Johnson: "When I'm in these big arenas, I ask for hands -- 'Show me your hand if you've answered a poll in the last six months.' There will be like three hands among 300 people. I'm telling you, these polls are off. All of them."

cool, cool

men have always been pretty questionable but imo not enough people have really wrapped their heads around how thoroughly the internet has cooked men's brains over the last ~15 years.

Incredible gender difference in voting intention in Brazil.

The replies, in which a bunch of men demonstrate their inability to read the first six words of my post while denying the patently obvious fact that the Internet has cooked a whole lot of mens' brains, is reinforcing my point that the Internet has cooked a whole lot of mens' brains.

Reagan talked about welfare queens in Cadillacs, Trump talks about Somalian thieves in Mercedes Benzes, because being *real* racist has been a core strategy Republican politicians for a very long time, even if prior to Trump a lot of folks who should have known better enjoyed pretending otherwise.
