before the election, doing dogpile coverage on Trump's heavily documented and extremely plausible rape allegations would be Political and therefore improper. after the election it's time to turn the page, let bygones be bygones, look forward not backward, bsky.app/profile/hoff...

Will anyone—anyone at all—ask Trump about the rape allegations published in an official report by the House Judiciary Democrats? Or will he continue to escape accountability for his violence?

Cassandra reposted

The only reason I can think of for this news not being absolutely everywhere is that large media orgs don’t want to be seen as putting their thumbs on the scales a week before election day. And that’s cowardly as shit.

Beyond disgusted by even more rape allegations against the President of the United States. "In total, more than 25 different women...have independently accused Donald Trump of rape, sexual assault, or other sexual misconduct." Report w/ new details: democrats-judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-su...

As appalling as it is to ask an AI assistant for anything, I don't want the fact that Dazzle is an embarrassing nickname for a computer to get lost in the shuffle. We should be mocking her relentlessly for that too.

cool, cool

I think we should get to put him in a pit, and then a decent person should be awarded his academic position.

🫠🫠 YEAH

“I feel like I’m being penalized by the campaigns that I’ve supported," said Barbera Speros of Tampa, Florida. She said she's now getting an enormous amount of political texts and emails -- every hour. "Beyond ridiculous."

🫠 yeah

Jen Bendery@jbendery.bsky.social

Some people are getting 10-20 texts a DAY. One guy said he basically can't use his text app anymore, it's too inundated with spammy fundraising requests. Several people said they've blocked numbers asking for donations, only to get the exact same message from other numbers.

For the first time I listened to an audiobook all the way through! Please send me prizes and trophies and little treats, thank you.

Have we considered seizing the assets of anyone caught actually sending money to these miserable little dweebs

Honestly I could really go for one of these right now.

Oh haha I certainly have no lingering deep-seated issues related to any of this. not me, that's for sure

This may not relate to the OP but what may help lessen the emotional response is if people stopped belittling those who struggled to learn those subjects. There’s a lot of walking wounded out there. No one calls kids who can’t draw well “dumb”. But if you can’t math? Apparently we’re “dumb”.

"You won't debate me because you can't beat my IDEAS"—no, loser, I won't debate you because your ideas have been considered and rejected and no longer warrant debate, and the very act of engaging in debate frames you as better than you are and your failed ideas as worthy of anything but contempt.

Aside from the acute horrors and atrocities, the thing that might actually break me is the mundane shit in industry publications, like "railroads continue to benefit from shippers shifting cargo to rail from trucks [...] in part from a crackdown on immigrant drivers [...]"

Like, oh good, it appears the ongoing ethnic cleansing might be "spur[ring] demand for more efficient rail" Cool, great

A lot of us GenXers and early Millennials got irony poisoning in the 90s & learnt a brand of "Doing The Thing But Ironically," and had to unlearn that behaviour. And some folks never seemed to get the memo.

As we approach the midterms, remember that the Alt National Park Service is a merch sales operation claiming without evidence to be a group of federal employees, and is not a genuine source of news about elections of any kind. Please get your election info from a local, reputable source.

Consider taking that energy you're tempted to spend castigating trans people for venting and using it to yell at the campaigns instead, maybe

I am once again begging Americans to understand that speeding/red light cameras which only do anything if someone is speeding/goes through a red light, *are not the same thing* as Flock-style ALPR cameras.

Ultimately, it feels like the entire modern conservative movement is driven by "I got everything I said I wanted, and now I'm angrier than ever."

White Christianity has nothing to do with the teachings (good or otherwise) of Jesus; it’s about exclusivity, predestined supremacy, goodness achieved without having to pay, forgiveness by proxy, and the eternal punishment of everyone else for the crime of noncompliance. It’s a spiritual gated HOA.

I simply will never understand why people want to deprive people of access to things that make rehabilitation possible, such as housing, then act outraged when they do things like working in the illegal economy to survive after they've been pushed out of conventional society.

I treasure the memory of watching Cats with my family, my sainted mother, @rainierrambler.bsky.social, growing very grave during the Gus the Theater Cat scenes and then turning to me and saying solemnly "this movie might be any of these actor's last movie." 😔

Parallels abound!!

Julia Serano@juliaserano.bsky.social

this is reminiscent of the moral panic against trans youth, which started out on blogs for parents who didn't want to believe their own kids were trans. some of those parents went on to write books, create organizations, & position themselves "experts" on the issue

I'm absolutely open to learning that more adults are cutting off their parents than previous generations. (But who knows. Not me! That's why I want data!) Hordes callously & impulsively discarding loving parents because a therapist persuaded them to for laughs? I dunno man, show me the numbers.

Cassandra reposted

If this were really an issue on any scale then Meta would be selling a product where these parents could get Whatsapp messages from an AI version of their estranged kids.

Michael Hobbes@michaelhobbes.bsky.social

This is a quietly metastasizing moral panic

This is such a good point.

Dex Anderson@dexanderson.com

I think the real panic under this is boomers realizing that our system for caring for the elderly is broken and that they are not going to get the same care their parents did because their kids are not invested in maintaining relationship/do not feel the familial obligation to do so.
