Opened this week's what's new on Kanopy email and got actually, literally, lightheaded from excitement. 🎶 KONYA WA HURRICANE 🎶 ANATA NI HURRICANE 🎶

Got a kudos email this morning letting me know someone read (and liked!) Ghost Story and and a different person read (and liked!) Hellbent. 🥹 Those kudos emails can really be lifesavers sometimes.

The bit about accusations of "being afraid of movement" hit especially hard. I spent years and thousands of dollars desperately trying to maintain my pre-illness levels of activity and instead did permanent damage to my health. People who assume I'm just lazy or scared are only telling on themselves

Anil van der Zee@anilvanderzee.bsky.social

A blog about the multiple reasons why I keep fighting. Why I thus far stay alive. "The fight against the injustice done to the patient community is a big driver. I just can't and won't shut up about it!!!” anilvanderzee.com/staying-aliv... #pwme #myalgicE #millionsmissing #severeME #MECFS

This isn't to imply that people suffering from ME or CSF who didn't lead highly active lives before getting ill are less worthy of care and compassion. It's that the assumption of laziness is literally killing people like me. And in the long run, if I'm honest, it might wind up killing me, too.

My mom's family uses "toot" not as a euphemism for fart, but to describe some hair sticking up that *isn't* a cowlick--just a piece that maybe dried weird or was otherwise messed up from the rest of the hairstyle. As in,"oh you have a toot, lemme fix that for you."

Any of my mutuals got a tried and true fave recipe for potato soup? I've been slowly introducing dairy and wanna give it a try but if it makes me miserable afterward I at least wanna enjoy the cause of my suffering.

I remember this clip making the rounds a bit ago and that's when I first learned about the Dunnes Stores strike and it's a great reminder again today about how impact can be made

Let's try this again, since I forgot I don't actually give my name on this account and not everyone knows me by my acafanmom username: I'm Lori (Hitchcock) Morimoto, I do media fan studies and dabble in Japanese popular culture. If you use any of my academic work on your syllabi, can you ping me?

Dr. Acafanmom@acafanmom.bsky.social

A request! If anyone here is using any of my academic work in a course syllabus, could you kindly let me know where and for what course? Thanks for your help - it's for review stuff! :)

Ok I think I now have the cognitive capacity to check out hosting platforms so one single person's not carrying the responsibility of making the good subs version of Guardian available for general downloading. I already asked, but please remind me--is Mega good enough for the cost (~$50/yr)?

Any of my tech-inclined folks here have advice for a friend?

ISO Tech help: I'm looking into 2 in 1 laptop tablets (need one for work, as most books for review come as PDFs now). If I get one, what's the easiest way to convert a PDF so you have page turn capability? I've read a few posts about it but something isn't clicking. Thanks much!

I come to you with hat in hand once again in search of movie essays for Exploits, an @unwinnable.com publication. Pay is $15 for a hard maximum of 375 words, and you can write about pretty much any movie you want, old or new, just run it by me first.

Got to the third sentence and was like oh yeah, that lady is/was in due South fandom and knows alllll the words

Absolutely amazing story in today's Ask a Manager. www.askamanager.org/2026/08/the-...

Reached a new level of Being An Old! I wanted a treat after my doctor appt but none of the fancy ice cream options at the store appealed. On my way out I noticed pre-cut pineapple for the same price as a pint of Talenti 👍Ate a piece when I got home and remembered pineapple's too sweet for me now 😂

Not a fan of the "be grateful it's not worse" mentality but ngl I truly appreciate that I can still consume food with my mouth and I don't have to wear dark glasses indoors.

My experience is of every American COVID-19 mitigation effort being obviously insufficient, and ended far too soon. To see people now argue that they somehow were too much, going too far? Not anti-vax or MAGA people, but folks just out here on Bluesky? It staggers me.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

Well, fuck. Someone just told me that there was an update to their website yesterday and games will be broadcast on ESPN Select. So NEVER MIND I GUESS. Good for them getting the money I guess but god damn I hate capitalism.

"For our own survival, we’ve learnt to normalise feeling unwell. We measure our symptoms not against the healthy body, but against its worst potential...and we tell ourselves that this is ok, really. We can live with this." When being content with merely surviving is its own survival mechanism.
