With a teacher's strike impending, the union's message seems to be "being in a class with students who receive special education services takes something away from *your child*!" I feel angry and heartbroken.

I don't have faith in SEA to advocate for Special Ed students. Special Education is a service, not a location. All students must receive their supports in their neighborhood schools. It's SEA who insists on siloing kids according to their needs.

Gordon Padelford of Seattle Streets Alliance said the key ingredient to achieve Vision Zero is political will, and that has been missing in the past, but Mayor Wilson demonstrated it today.

It’s incredible how a fucking bike lane gets delayed for 15 years in Ballard over “environmental review” and we just decide cars return to pike place in 6 weeks with no process

There's no negotiating with these irrational complainers.

The moderator launches into a mini-lecture. Says restricting cars eliminates the “sense of theater, mystery and surprise…the visual and aural stimulation” that makes the market special.

Everyone go donate/subscribe to PubliCola! Seattle would be lost without our independent journalists!

Hearing on good authority that Police Chief Shon Barnes has just been fired. He just left the mayor's office this evening after being inside for quite a while. Barnes is currently calling around the police department to tell his captains. Still waiting on confirmation from mayor's office and SPD.

Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users. ALL ROAD USERS. What about painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them. Via @usa.streetsblog.org @nyc.streetsblog.org

Universal Healthcare isn't far left Prosecuting rapists isn't far left Criticizing politicians and policies isn't far left Demanding laws for equality & civil rights isn't far left None of it is far enough If someone considers any of these ideas to be far left then they're definitely far right

The ADA experience taking transit to and from the world cup last night was incredible. The easiest crowd navigation with my wheelchair kiddo I've ever experienced. Hats off to sound transit and transit security for their awesome customer service. I ❤️ u!

I don't drive my car, I exclusively bike and ride transit. But I'm paying for insurance, registration and, most painfully, parking, to keep it because I know I will never again be able to get a car free of surveillance if I don't keep this one.

We owe nothing to the past and everything to the future. Also it’s bad enough that almost dead White people try to control the future for their own very short term benefit, let alone actually dead White men controlling the future through ideological proxies.

Driving is convenient only for people who don’t plan, can waste money, and are hostile to the public wellbeing. Otherwise it’s an expensive, wasteful, and inconvenient form of travel we’re all but coerced to use.

Do we have a city slogan? I don't think so. Can it be "half the hills are downhill"?

Qagggy!@qagggy.bsky.social

In Seattle: - People bike all the time. - We have a temperate climate. - Half the hills are downhill.

It is absolutely ridiculous that light rail and Amtrak don't connect at King Street Station/the ID. The wayfinding is lousy and the walk/crosswalk is hostile. If I, a train-loving transit nerd, am annoyed and frustrated, just imagine how bad it is for normies.

@wilsonforseattle.bsky.social Downtown Seattle when?

Congestion Pricing Now@fundtransitnow.bsky.social

Good data alert coming through! NYCEDC reports that business activity in the congestion relief zone is outpacing the rest of NYC: 4.8% foot-traffic growth in the zone vs. 1% citywide. www.eenews.net/articles/bus...

This is real climate leadership from Councilmember Rinck! I can't wait for us to elect some like-minded colleagues really interested in improving this city! I got my ballot in!

Rinck speaking to her amendment on increasing trees in the public right-of-way utilizing existing parking stalls: "Throughout the Comprehensive Plan discussions we heard loud and clear that we need a greater focus on our tree canopy to meet our goals and promote environmental justice."

Seattle, call on Mayor Harrell and @seattledot.bsky.social to put #Bollards on the waterfront and at ALL pedestrian markets NOW!! Cops can’t protect us from vehicle attacks because bullets don’t stop speeding 4000lb objects. Only physical barriers can. #Vancouver #Seattle

I support tough on crime policies, where “tough on crime” means “the architects of fraud, insurrection, and genocide face consequences” instead of “private prisons full of Black people”.

Which type of growth do you prefer? 1 building that contains 32 homes in an existing city OR bulldoze 32 acres of forest to build 32 1-plexes? We can call the 1-plex development euphemistically "Forest Park Estates." Which is better for trees? Let's welcome more neighbors in our existing cities
