Asked why he still hadn’t yet spent his $100 in democracy vouchers for a progressive Seattle City Council candidate like Nilu Jenks, District 5 resident Mike Reynolds says he’s saving all of his to buy one big democracy.

All the ferries. Not a ferry, um, light rail 2 line across the lake on a clear day. Bus? Well I do take it a lot but I’m really partial to the 28 from Fremont into downtown. The view from the Aurora bridge is often great, and then coming into downtown you get a great view of the Space Needle.

Tell the WA state leg that if they don't think public ed is a big deal, the state of Texas didn't either and now Texans might elect a former teacher as Senator and former school board president as Governor and THEY ARE BOTH DEMOCRATS.

Y'all in the past two years, Texas closed 170 public schools and the state MIGHT GO BLUE OVER IT.

Jessie Dugan@jessiedugan.bsky.social

Just a friendly reminder, the terms rightsizing, school mergers, school consolidation are simply Ed Reformist, corporatized terms for school closures, which do not help a district in financial distress (looking at you, Seattle Public Schools).

Celebration Farms in Fall City is a small operation compared to many area pumpkin patches, but they have some very gentle pet sheep. Who we got to pet and feed. And one of the family daughters told us many interesting facts about them, which was also a delight.

Hey so y’all ever spent time looking through the National Archives of the photos the government took of what the environment was like before the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act because YIKES

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Emails out to affected schools about SPS school mergers, meetings happening in December. 4pm on a Friday. This is like CLASSIC SPS. Did someone let Marni make decisions again??? Also the email states “No decisions have been made.” Lolololol who exactly are you kidding here?

I'm organizing this for Seattle Public Schools, let me know if you'd like to get involved.

Over 2,500 people have signed the petition asking the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care for a two-year pause on AI in schools. Research supports it. NYC and LA have done it. We can stop our kids being unconsenting beta-testers for this unproven tech. actionnetwork.org/petitions/pa...

I want a substantial wealth tax on billionaires who threaten to leave a state if a law passes or politician is elected and then fail to follow through.

Update: I was wrong, there will be a special council meeting on Monday to approve Saka's traffic safety bill and Bob Kettle will be putting forward an amendment to strip out the historic district provisions. Someone tipped off the preservation folks about this so they had more time to organize.

With school mergers now becoming more public in SPS with announcements to affected staff, this seems to be as good a time as any to let you all know that I have to take a step away from the SPS beat. I got a job! Yay! However it’s also my last semester of my grad school program! I have no time now.

I will skeet school board meetings live as I can, but because I will be working full time, probably won’t be able to do it until I get home from work, which means often missing the first hour or so. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are my required in-office days.

I am sad about having to step back, as I have been doing this since 2020, and I’m concerned about the Seattle Times’ current reporting capacity. Please let me know about things though and I will re-skeet. I will re-evaluate in January when at least my Masters should be done!

Literally this is what all my friends in other places say why they prefer to vote in person. Getting the sticker. (For me it was the delightful old ladies from the League of Women Voters.) Tax millionaires! Bring back the stickers!

By terminating research grants like Kelton's to censor views it doesn’t like, the NIH is blocking scientists from work that would advance public health for all of us. We're pushing back. Tell Congress to demand the NIH restore the grants and stop its censorship campaign at aclu.org/nih_censorship_

Two anti-LGBT initiatives are on the ballot, the state is settling lawsuits by allowing foster parents to discriminate against queer kids, and Seattle's NPR affiliate is inviting the board chair of an organization aiming to ban gay marriage onto their Friday chat show. Things are going great.

Re-upping this since Paul Guppy was on Week in Review again today

My kids (3rd and 7th) are both learning about elections/the American political system in school right now. I am looking forward to filling out my ballot with them this weekend and talking with them about why I'm voting for various people. Another reason voting by mail is awesome.
