Marketing said they wanted a promotional video showing the book "in the wild". I'm assuming the Puget Sound shellfish research laboratory's beach counts as "in the wild".

When I was on Xitter, it felt like most of the value was in keeping up-to-date. On BlueSky, I feel most of the value is being reminded frequently that even though there is a lot wrong with the world, there are still many fabulous people, and always more to meet. Thank you, fabulous people.

You know what’s an actual existential threat to humanity? Climate change. Weirdly, I don’t see the same people worrying about that. Odd. Wonder why that might be

AI companies in the US and China are losing $ billions per quarter with no clear path to profitability. Europe isn't losing anywhere near as much! 😱 Embarrassing! Europe must get with the program, and start throwing more of our money on the AI dumpster fire as well! We can't be out spent by the US!

Among many other things, I'm also interested in helping improve legacy code bases (C#, F#, or Haskell; possibly Python), as this is typically a really difficult problem. So get in touch if you think I can help.

The medical open-source project that hired me to help seems to have unexpectedly run out of money, so it looks as though I'm available for hire until November. Get in touch if you think I can help your software engineering organisation. blog.ploeh.dk/hire-me

Inspired by the pancake party at @github.com, we are dropping the brand-new Studio for Oh My Posh. Studio lowers the barrier to entry for terminal theme creation so anyone can customize their setup. Explore the docs: ohmyposh.dev/docs/studio

ohmyposh.devStudio | Oh My PoshEdit the config below and the prompt above updates as you type. A WebAssembly build of
Oh My Posh@ohmyposh.dev

📦 v30.0.0 Bug Fixes * battery: add illumos/solaris support to fix cross-compile failure * cache: explicitly bump session file mtime on persist * cli: remove stale migrate mention from config --help * config: render a data-only segment the way a writer would #oh-my-posh #oss #cli #opensource

I'm reviewing my first pull request from a colleague who wrote the code AI agent assisted. Feeling burdened reviewing code that someone else generated with the help of someone else. Is this the new enterprise Ring-a-Ring o' Roses with tagging?

Dieses Social-Media-Verbot für Jugendliche erinnert mich an eine Chemiefabrik, der nicht verboten wird, ihre Abwasser in den See zu leiten, sondern stattdessen den Jugendlichen verboten wird, im See zu schwimmen.

Which is why we should be very careful that we don't poison wells, and why "move fast and poison wells" is bad advice.

Because of challenges with budget and headcount, we figured we could get this out faster by offshoring the work to a team halfway around the world

Recently, I've been feeding LLMs photos of hand-drawn diagrams, asking them to turn them into TikZ drawings. This seems to be at the frontier of what LLMs can do. It's not an entire fiasco, but on the other hand not going particularly well, either.

Ubuntu 26.04 ships with .NET 10 out of the box: new -resolute container images, Linux 7.0 readiness, post‑quantum crypto, and clean cgroup v2 support. Native AOT is fast: tiny binaries + ~3ms startup. .NET 8/9 available via backports PPA. 📘 Blog: ift.tt/PfDItyM

A response to recent reporting in Germany, in service of clarity and accountability: First, it’s important to be precise when it comes to critical infrastructure like Signal. Signal was not “hacked” — in that our encryption, infrastructure, & the integrity of the app’s code was not compromised. 1/

C# 15 adds union types: closed sets of case types, exhaustive pattern matching, implicit conversions, and even support for custom non‑boxing unions. It’s a big quality‑of‑life boost for APIs that return “one of several shapes.” Full post: devblogs.microsoft.com/dotnet/cshar...

We habitually use CRUD and collection terms in our code. It's a knee-jerk decision because libraries are full of them and "go fast!" Our brains become wired to that "language." Pro Tip: Challenge your team to reject CRUD- and collection-think and seek more fitting words directly from the business.
