👏 We’ve expanded our openRxiv Labs Curvenote Reader experiment to medRxiv
Combined with bioRxiv, all 428,000+ preprints in the openRxiv Corpus are now available in the new interactive, networked experience.

💭 What might peer review look like if it evolved alongside the research lifecycle?
That’s what the #ModularPeerReview WG convened by @continuous.foundation & PREreview explored through Jan-July 2026.
The groundwork is laid—and the invitation to shape what comes next is open: bit.ly/4x3INZY
So excited for @gabestein.com to join openRxiv as Head of Product! We’ve worked together on several projects in the past - now great to be under the same roof openrxiv.org/stein-announ...
Most publishers are too complacent to change. It’s up to the contenders to aggressively disrupt and reform academic publishing, because we can’t rely on the publishers.
@continuous.foundation and @curvenote.com working with preprints with #ATscience activists are the best chance we have imho.
It’s so much worse than you can imagine. 6m papers published a year and I would say half of all submitting authors and reviewers will be using a ~30 year old piece of software to contribute to publication.
Yes that’s right. 30 years old. Three decades. Pre-broadband. Maybe pre-web.
You can read more about the experiment and the open exchange architecture (OXA) format that enables it in our blogpost openrxiv.org/labs-reader/. Feedback is welcome - it is an experiment after all! 2/2
Excited to launch the first openRxiv labs experiment: an interactive reading experience powered by @curvenote.com - this will evolve but you can get a taster of what's to come from the dynamic references & figure call-outs, in-line abbreviation expansions, etc. 1/2 reader.openrxivlabs.org

🚀 Today we’re launching Curvenote Reader
Curvenote Reader transforms existing research into connected, web-native reading experiences layered onto the systems repositories and publishers already use.
No rebuilds. No workflow disruption.

🚀 To move beyond end-point peer review, PREreview & @continuous.foundation are co-leading the Modular Peer Review Working Group.
60+ people from diverse backgrounds and regions have joined this space for co-creation.
Take a look at their first session outputs and follow along👇

“In a physical world of .. printed journals, bundling made sense. In a digital world, we are increasingly constrained by boundaries that no longer make sense. In a world of AI, what does the bundle prevent us from seeing?” 🎯
Great piece by @row1.ca on unbundling research into modular knowledge! >
Scientific publishing is still organized around bundles built for print. We use music’s shift from albums to streaming to argue why access and unbundling aren’t enough.
Shared standards are the missing layer for reusable, trustworthy science.

This article on a similar theme is better because it recognises that it's not just for AI it's also for humans, and it's not about breaking down papers into "atoms of knowledge" but about reusable components for ongoing research (not the same).

Building trust, building together: In San Diego @continuous.foundation & openRxiv hosted a workshop bringing together developers of scientific communications tools. Implementation focused, and most importantly we got to work together.

Real change happens when people build together. In San Diego, @openrxiv.bsky.social and CSF brought tool builders and researchers into one room to share a keyboard, test ideas, and prototype modular, machine readable publishing.

Huge thanks to the Proceedings Committee, @curvenote.com, Jim Weiss, all the authors, and reviewers who made this happen. 🙌
The @openrxiv.bsky.social community is charting the future of preprints — not just as papers, but as connected nodes in the open research web.
Our reflections + @row1.ca's lightning talk on building continuous, connected publishing.

The Reuse Incentives Working Group will explore what drives researchers to share and reuse modular outputs—from figures and code to data and methods and how we can design better systems and incentives to make it worthwhile.
Introducing #ComposableScience, a new paradigm for the way science is communicated. Where data, code, figures are shared & credited. Where we can reuse and build on others' work easily.
Share your story & help shape how we make modular science a reality 👉 continuousfoundation.org/get-involved
We have an open call with @continuous.foundation for a Modular Style Peer Review Working Group to:
🌻 Co-create practical models for reviewing non-traditional outputs
🌻 Build trust without gatekeeping
🌻 Design review processes that reflect researcher needs
Join us: continuousfoundation.org/peer-form
In May we hosted a convergence in Banff, Canada. The group gathered to ask better questions of science communication. Not just what’s broken?—but what could be?
We surfaced stories, tools, and a hunger for something more open, more connected.
articles.continuousfoundation.org/articles/ban...
We named a movement. Composable Science. Not just a model. A mindset. Modular. Discoverable. Creditable. Reusable.
Science that doesn’t sit in a drawer. It gets passed on, credited, remixed, and reapplied. Faster to share. Faster to find. Faster to use.
Inspired by the conversations at our workshop last week, we are more convinced than ever. We can't keep treating broken systems like sacred ones.
It is time to build what science actually needs — here to do it together.

We believe in sharing early, often, and openly. Prioritizing small, meaningful updates over large, infrequent ones. Changes towards continuous process — continuous science — allows feedback and review to happen when it matters — during the research process, not only after it’s done.
It’s time to build integrated systems that embrace the full spirit of open science — where collaboration, data sharing, and computational integration are built in, not bolted on.

Modern research is collaborative, computational, and built iteratively — from large datasets to carefully developed protocols, pipelines and research software. And yet, the systems we use to share that research remain largely unchanged.
