Sure would be nice to be one of those rich grain farmers Farming While Beige always talks about. Instead, I have this 50 year old bin with a cracked concrete floor you can never really get all the moldy corn out of. And my pickup truck is 10 years old and rusty. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Tried a new(ish) restaurant tonight. It was very full. On a Thursday night. Yes, our bill was $86 (we had fancy cocktails which was $30 of that, eeek). Social media keeps saying everyone is broke but an expensive place packed on a Thursday night does not meet that. 🤷🏻‍♂️

A U.S. envoy calling murderer Putin a humanitarian while visiting him in Kremlin — when after failing to achieve his military goals, Putin directs Ukrainian civilians to be hunted in the streets or executed in their own homes. Kids will read about this one day and ask: what was everyone else doing?

Writing in National Review, Andrew McCarthy makes out the case that Trump's duplicitous dealings with Putin satisfy the statutory requirements for a treason prosecution. And indeed, they do. Which is probably why most of Trump's dealings with Putin are kept under wraps.

This gets worse and worse and worse. I’m so disgusted by this government squatting in the White House

Took the weekend off of harvesting. The 10 day forecast is dry and sunny which sounds great and also really tiring

If only we had a modern soybean bin. Sigh. Loading soybeans out of our tiny bins, into the grain cart, so we can fill a semi after the rain ends tomorrow or Friday.

Hit a broken field cultivator sweep mostly buried in the ground. I didn’t see it, but the very end sickle bar tooth caught it. I was like oh whew, easy fix, just replace the sickle tooth. Umm. Because it was the very end one it is a special snowflake and here we are trying to remove broken bolts

Too close for missiles switching to guns

Video shows a Ukrainian Air Force MiG-29 shooting down a Russian jet-powered Geran-4 drone at point-blank range with its onboard cannon, then flying through the resulting fireball. The footage is so clear that even the muzzle flashes from the cannon on the MiG-29’s left side are visible as it fires

This afternoon’s Sunday view: harvesting soybeans. You can see the leftovers of the flooded out spot from the summer‘s deluges just ahead of me.

The US announced a deal to import Russian diesel this week, suspending sanctions on those exports until April. We want to speak directly to our supporters in the US and around the world.

For all the good it will do, I actually emailed my congresspeople on the diesel issue. Congress isn’t in session (such a useless Congress) so whatever

A bunch of people followed me after I talked about being pissed about the Russian diesel deal. Then I went off and did farm work for 9 hours. So yes, I’m a row crop farmer in IL. Seemingly the only democratic leaning farmer here.

Im quiet about it, or I would have no customers for my ag drone business, and my father would probably disown me. Mom kinda knows, but even she continues to vote R despite not liking Trump. So I use bluesky to vent. Someday I’ll probably regret that. 🤷🏻‍♂️

So hi folks, follow me for venting, Ukraine reposts (go donate to @dzygaspaw.com please), and some farming content from a frustrated liberal trapped in a massively conservative farming sphere.

I just filled a combine and a tractor with over 250 gallons of diesel and I am wildly, vehemently opposed to doing business with Russia for diesel.

If you see Trump's "diesel deal" to Putin as anything other than direct aid to Russia to continue their illegal war and war crimes against Ukraine then you do not understand what is happening.

After an aborted start yesterday due to wet fields and almost getting the combine stuck, we found a drier field and got going today on soybeans. First soybean entry in my harvest tracker is in the books.

Okay goddamn, the warning sirens they have in the new development near the farm are fucking spooky. It’s Tuesday test and they went off. There’s announcement voice, the sirens sound like every zombie horror movie you’ve ever watched and it’s all deeply unsettling. And they come from every direction

Whew. I guess.

⚠️XOM RESTARTING: big price relief coming to the states hardest hit by the power outage at the ExxonMobil refinery in Joliet, IL last week. Gasoline seeing a large 23c/gal drop and diesel down even more significantly. Price relief coming to MI, IN, OH, IL, WI soon.

subscribe FREE to me on Substack. Today: The U.S. isn't short of diesel. The world is. So would banning U.S. diesel exports actually lower prices? It might sound like an easy fix. But once you look at refinery economics and how fuel actually moves, the answer gets complicated. Click below.

Trump is apparently talking about buying potash from Belarus. Belarus is sanctioned and they have no port of their own to ship through. In my career, I have used Belarussian potash. It is usually garbage quality. Very dusty, full of fines from the many times it has to be loaded and unloaded

Canadian potash is loaded at the mine into rail cars, and generally arrives at the fertilizer plant in America where it will be used. It is high quality, well-granulated, easily shipped. I do not want garbage from Belarus

I received both of these newspapers in yesterday’s mail. One of them is from July. For 20 years, no delivery issues. The last two years, horrendous.

this talk of “running out” of diesel is THE madness. the U.S. is sitting on 4.08 BILLION gallons of (<15ppm) distillates today, which is up from 4.05 billion a wk ago. just bc a few stations have issues does not mean a nationwide crisis is brewing. now sit down & relax plz.

I just met a Romanian who came to our farm to buy hay. Dad somehow got on the topic of Putin, and the dude flat out declared Ukraine was not a country. I did not know that attitude was common in Romania.

I quit going to local barbershops because they all had Fox News blathering. The only talk radio on air for decades is massively conservative. If you want to know ‘how America could do this’ it’s because of right wing propaganda like this, constantly fed into our brains at all times

Chris Wright on Fox Business says "thank God we have President Trump with some common sense on energy" as a graphic is displayed showing diesel prices at record highs

*babbling noises*

Patrick De Haan@gasbuddyguy.bsky.social

we've reached a new milestone- the U.S. average diesel price has hit $6.301/gal while gasoline is up to $4.355/gal. I expect both of these to jump noticably over the next 48 hours. diesel could hit $6.60/gal in a few days, surpassing the inflation-adjusted peak seen in 2022.

the truly crazy making part of all of this is that voter fraud EFFECTIVELY DOES NOT EXIST. you have a better chance of finding an actual leprechaun at the end of the rainbow than of finding evidence of voter fraud that influences an election

Genuinely an insane paragraph from Sam Alito. “Voter fraud is real and scary and we have to stop it, so the fact that implementing Trump’s mail ballot rule will disenfranchise millions is legally irrelevant.” Brain melted. A right-wing podcaster in a robe. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...
