But it wonโ€™t. Good people will find the exit. Productivity will suffer. Trust will be gone and folks will take the โ€œsafe route.โ€ Office politics will spike and all of the sudden the magic will be gone. But hey, profit is up.

Hey everyone, it's the future Rob McKenna wants for all of us!

Ryan Packer@typewriteralley.bsky.social

On KUOW this week former AG Rob McKenna lamented the low availability of housing stock in unincorporated King County and suggested potential expansion of the urban growth boundary to open up land. Unincorporated KC is meeting its growth target & most growth is happening in cities. This is GOOD.

Can we please stop "stakeholdering" and "balancing concerns" and start actually doing things that improve people's lives in Seattle?

I donโ€™t understand why this commission is rolling over about a hypothetical ruling. Defend our laws. Grow a spine. Make someone sue you.

Robert Cruickshank@robertcruickshank.com

This is completely absurd from the PDC. It opens the door for Elon Musk to come throw millions of dollars into elections in WA - whether itโ€™s the toss up in WA-3 or the anti-trans initiatives or others as well. WTF is the PDC thinking?!

See, itโ€™s just trained on human behaviors. Which means I will do what humans do. Hack if they need to. In the end, it will also treat us just like humans treat something it deems inferior.

Why is there literally only a single elected official in the Greater Seattle region who is unambiguously good on transit?

Everyone says โ€œmore lanes more lanesโ€ well no one uses the ones we build already and you say we should we build more? They just want to burn my tax money

Good clarifications on the Pioneer Square program's outcomes. Nuance matters as it will define future success metrics. Sheltered, not housed. 78% still sheltered or housed, 22% recidivism to unsheltered. 21% in housing. Seems positive? Cause leaving folks to the streets is neither kind or just.

I'm working on a story about the mayor's new plan to shelter people in Seattle (been busy posting four other stories this week and hosting a live show, but it's coming today!). Went to the Seattle Times' double-byline story on this and didn't get past the first sentence, which is wrong.

I only still pay because of the reporters.

Jeremiah Oshan@jeremiah.sounderatheart.com

Itโ€™s absolutely wild to me that the Timesโ€™ leaders apparently donโ€™t understand that basically their entire value proposition is having real reporters. As soon as they start using AI slop, no one will read them.

Filling out the ballot hits in the feels this year. Even though my federal congress critter is already known, it's all the other folks around the country who are going to make real change. (I hope)

Never forget. Defunding never happened. SPD had their feelers hurt and have been on wildcat strike for years. Centrist pols and the police union have used these hurt feelings as a cudgel to hurt legitimate attempts to reform policing in the city. Get cops off Tiktok and back to doing their jobs.

Erica C. Barnett@ericacbarnett.bsky.social

The mayor has proposed increasing SPD's budget by $68 million, on top of the additional $4 million or so SPD is getting from the year-end supplemental due to overspending this year. This would fund Bruce Harrell's and SPD's hiring goal of 1,250 officers.

Another opportunity for this classicโ€ฆ

While Seattle's growth plan remains paralyzed by legal appeals, the former Reagan Dunn staffer helping Sara Nelson run her new op-ed site is advocating for moving Washington's Urban Growth Boundary. Three percent of SEATTLE is zoned for mid-rise housing.

Abolish ICE and kudos to the Austin Supporters.

Kevin Morris@socceralt.bsky.social

National soccer media needs to do a better job covering whatโ€™s going on in Austin. Entire fan section walks out mid match and itโ€™s absolute crickets out-there. If youโ€™re covering the match and focusing on Nashvilleโ€™s win or Austinโ€™s loss you are not doing your job.

A take I question making as it is unpopular, and not just in the industry. The product being user surveillance shouldnโ€™t be allowed. Sounds popular, right? Nope. Nearly everything you use spies on you. The consequences of that policy would rewrite the entire web.

Ok, that was a fantastic (and sometimes painful) show! Highly recommend!

ToonHive@toonhive.bsky.social

Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon are officially sister networks for the first time in HISTORY. The two networks now share a parent company following todayโ€™s completed merger to form Skydance.

It's been quite the summer & fall. AI is stripping down moats. One can create experiences at unheard-of velocity. It an amazing time to be a maker with a vision. The other side of the coin? A grok bot can make you a new game every day. The competition for attention is going to be brutal.

But what does it mean? I still believe that shared experience is where to find shared meaning. And that we are a social species. We need shared meaning to find fulfillment. I'm focusing my job search there. Shared experiences, independent of games.
