"If the person is a U. S. citizen or otherwise lawfully in the United States, that individual will be free to go after the brief encounter." -- Justice Kavanaugh

Kavanaugh stops in action: ICE tackled a non-verbal kid near his school, left him with injuries requiring surgery, and then left the scene when they realized he wasn't the person they were looking for www.independent.com/2026/10/23/i...

Arabs don't know anything about algorithms (*touches earpiece*) ah ok I'm hearing that's actually literally named after an Arab....ok well they are bad at Algebra (*touches earpiece*) uh nevermind....ok well they use our numerals so! (*touches earpiece*)

Not to ruin anyone’s Sunday afternoon, but Brazilians are voting for president today. We’ll start getting returns at 4pm ET, and, based on the results of the first round it’d be a clear surprise if Lula survives against Bolsonaro — even if polls have tightened in the last two weeks.

Here is how the cyclist described this interaction. There's a happy-ish ending cut from the video: the pedestrian realizes what's going on, apologizes, and agrees that the city needs to fix it. Of course, you can't stop to explain the LFT to EVERYBODY - better infrastructure is the real solution!

True as a general principle but do we know why the “push button to open door” doors keep the motor engaged when being operated manually, thus making the door very difficult to open?

Also, studies show that when we improve a space or system for the disabled, the benefits actually spread to everyone. You’re not just helping yourself later; you’re helping yourself right now.

We absolutely 100% must reform the pardon.

The main beneficiaries of tolls and congestion pricing is...drivers!

Thomas Bamonte@thomasbamonte.bsky.social

It appears IDOT and the Illinois General Assembly have not taken up these recommendations. As a result, traffic congestion in Chicago's urban core continues to be high. Their unwillingness to do the political/legal heavy lifting means folks sit in traffic jams = lost productivity/quality of life.

Great thread for the Chicago transport nerds among us

Thomas Bamonte@thomasbamonte.bsky.social

Fixed-rate tolls, like on the Illinois Tollway, would not fix congestion on the Kennedy or other expressways in Chicago's urban core. Dynamically priced expressways--or just express lanes--that use price to match traffic demand to available roadway supply to deliver reliable 50 mph+ speeds would.

Vivek Ramaswamy has been a horrible person in public for so long that until a friend reminded me, I totally forgot that I wrote a letter to the editor blasting his opposition to a living wage for campus workers more than *two decades ago*

Did you know CTA once had more bus routes serving Evanston, along streets like Main and Grant? They provided east-west connectivity that is currently lacking. CTA has a new survey on bus network improvements; Fill it out to ask for better bus service in Evanston: www.surveymonkey.com/r/busvisions...

I recently visited and what l’ll say to this is if you looked at a suburban train line you’d just think it was a metro. electrified multiple units, substantially grade separated, high frequencies, 4 doors, and very fast dwell times

Amazing how quickly we went from "oh no LLMs are going to flood the Internet with insecure code" to "oh no LLMs have discovered the internet was already flooded with insecure code"

If a car is blocking the bike lane you can call and call and call and they will not send any police. If there are safety advocates blocking the bike lane with a protest, riot police will be there immediately.

Oh here's some fun real estate pricing going on down in Indian Village at The Powhattan. Two apartments in the same building, same tier (floor-plan). One is 7 floors higher up, and asking $1M more than the other. I bet the one realtor has got to hate the other right?

I sat in a coffee shop in LA in a downpour once and 1/3 people came in in NYC black raincoats, 1/3 came in in like Patagonia hiking jackets, and 1/3 came in soaking wet in tank tops. Pretty much sums up LA.

Nick (derogatory) ✨@slothropsmap.bsky.social

One fun thing about moving to LA from a normal part of the world is that when it rains everyone goes absolutely fucking pants on fire crazy. It’s taken me 30 minutes to drive a mile in what could gratuitously be called a modest sprinkle.

Perhaps the best way to describe 2026 to someone in the past or future is that I don't know if this is a phishing email or legit

You'd think that you could install an HVAC system and get HVAC inspection... Nope! You need "Ventilation" inspection conducted by sheetmetal workers (ducts, vents, fans) and "Refrigeration" inspection by pipefitters (gas pipes, refrigerant linesets, pressure valves).

Adults have extreme survivorship bias when setting expectations for children as road users. You made it to adulthood without being a victim of traffic violence by nothing more than dumb luck. You weren't a special genius child with parents who trained you in traffic jiu jitsu. You were lucky.

Tom Flood@tomflood.bsky.social

people get hella mad when you suggest adult drivers should be more responsible than children walking/biking.
