👀August 2026 Fiction👀 "Like Water" is a short story by E.M. Linden / @emlinden.bsky.social about losing the things we hold most dear when we are made to assimilate. Read it here! havenspec.com/fiction/like...

This beautiful hardcover book was released yesterday in the UK and Ireland (Sept 22 elsewhere). It includes my short story, “Again! Atabey Commands,” inspired by Taíno mythology and folklore. 🪶

• Published by Flame Tree, and available for purchase through Waterstones, Amazon UK, Bookshop, etc. • If you’re in the US, you can pre-order from Amazon, Walmart, Barnes & Noble, Target, etc. 💚

Woke up with this in mind: I will write this novel. Even if some days all I write is a single sentence, this book will exist. In the words of the excellent Octavia E. Butler, “So be it, see to it!”

📣 Last day to pre-order “FOLKLORE HORROR: Short Stories” with 25% off! 🪶🪾🍃🖤

I was recently gifted my first fountain pen and I am in love with it. Fell into a rabbit hole last night learning about all the different kinds of ink — sheen, shimmer, high/low maintenance — but the best thing about is that now I have another reason to get excited about writing!

My latest story is now available to read for free in @trollbreathmag.bsky.social! A story that includes pirates, imprisoned gods, a sea dragon, and finding your place in a wondrous world. 🏴‍☠️ ✨

Yes — “The older I get, the more I realize, I don’t want a busy life. I want a deep life. Slow mornings. Focused work. Calm people. Meaningful progress. Good books. A quiet mind at night. Nothing flashy. Nothing trendy. Just a life that feels good to live. Depth over noise. That'll do.“ Karun Pal

Here you can find my short story “Two Paths, One Death,” featuring famous privateer Francis Drake, and mystic astronomer Giordano Bruno. If you enjoy Historical Horror, consider checking out this anthology. 🕯️🖤

“Life’s a forge!” cried the smith, as Taran, his brow streaming, beat at the strip of metal. “Yes, and hammer and anvil, too! You’ll be roasted, smelted, and pounded, and you’ll scarce know what’s happening to you. But stand boldly to it! Metal’s worthless till it’s shaped and tempered!”

I finished this book today and, even though this might not be the most exciting book in the series, I loved following Taran in his quest to know himself. Next up, The High King. 📖

“Did I ever think a weaver’s shuttle a light burden?” Taran sighed. “It’s not the shuttle that burdens you,” answered Dwyvach, “but lack of skill, a heavy burden, Wanderer, that only one thing can lift.” “What secret is that?” Taran cried. But Dwyvach only smiled. “It is patience, Wanderer.”

“I’ve heard men complain of doing woman’s work, and women complain of doing man’s work, but I’ve never heard the work complain of who did it, so long as it got done!”
