in my last job, we had this script that processed data from a Mass Spectrometer: only 2 functions inside it 6k+ lines all in archaic VB Script no comments no one knew who wrote it no one dared asked only knew what it did via word of mouth

"I prompted claude" "I prompted GPT 5.5" yeah, well i prompted my brain for some answers and it responded with some random song i've not heard in years also got a bonus reminder to unplug the vacuum cause it's been charging all day

ok non-tech ppl might be hearing some scary things about "critical vulnerabilities" involving certificates. the main thing you need to know, without getting down in the weeds about it, is that the fourth seal is broken. lo, a rider approacheth upon a pale steed, and his name is Death

we'll also sell digital keychains with common names on a dot-matrix or those kindle-like screens running on embedded rust

i can see a future where LLMs do all the major software engineering tasks similar to how mass-production of consumer goods happened and we'll end up seeing small shops in quaint villages with local artisans of high-quality, hand-crafted software that tourists will go "that's neat" and leave

years ago when i was at university i saw a person ride a unicycle over the top of the hill i saw the same unicycle a couple of days later at the library and couldn't help but think: "what if they get a flat tyre?" that question stills plagues me to this day

everytime i go to edinburgh, it follows the same cycle: > i hate edinburgh > go to edinburgh > actually, edinburgh isn't bad at all > don't visit for ages > forget cycle repeats indefinitely

i went to my first ever magic: the gathering pre-release event for the new set got absolutely kerb-stomped for 4 hours and won a single pack 10/10 would recommend and go again

i've recently been feeling rather burned out with tech and all the AI nonsense floating around so i decided to take a step back and do some other things in my spare time and holy shit, it works

decided to move on from a decrepit X11 WM config i had setup and moved over to using Noctalia / Umbriel forgot what it's like to have control like this (mainly because i was too lazy to update old config to make it usable...)

when you look at the world, sometimes you think that Algalon the Observer in the Ulduar raid of the peak MMORPG World of Warcraft had the right idea by wanting to scour all life from the face of the planet i'm sure we could all benefit by witnessing the fury of the cosmos

Before you say positive things about DHH because of Omarchy, a reminder that it's been like 3 weeks since he published a blog that compares Roma people to the wolves Denmark eradicated in the 1800s. He's an open, virulent racist and always has been. Everything he touches should be radioactive.

Re: "Funding for Omarchy is good news for the Linux ecosystem overall" No it's not

"Omarchy is not just a distribution, but it's also a counterweight to all the nonsense that has plagued Linux for far too long. It's a refuge from the clowns and the circus that has been Linux politics since the old institutions got infiltrated."
