We’re battening down the hatches today as a huge storm’s coming over Scotland. Stay safe out there. In other news, I have some more art to show soon, and here’s a tiny shroom we made. #handmade #woodturning #mushrooms #scottishcrafts #shrooms #goblincore #cottagecore #fairycore #scottishmade

Here is my full post on the AI announcements from Etsy yesterday. TL;DR: there weren't many real changes, and they aren't going to be doing much to enforce the actual changes very soon. But sellers who have never used AI now have to do much more work 🤷 #EtsySellerNews

cindylouwho2.comEtsy Caves A Bit On AI Listings and Images, Banning and Limiting More Uses of Generative AI — CindyLouWho2The buyer complaints & news articles on AI-generated patterns, plant photos etc. finally got to be too much for the C-Suite On October 22, 2026, Etsy released a series of posts announcing its a...

made a few more scaffold board shelf brackets today, so a mini build thread: first step is to clean, cut, drill, & bend parts before tack welding them on a little homemade jig

this batch being colour sprayed today, lacquer tomorrow Which is handy as sold out in black (red & silver still available) overnight. This batch will be cured & ready Saturday, meanwhile cutting more steel this afternoon

odd market research: if you're in the UK/EU & lucky enough to be able to drill holes in your walls without a landlord shouting, do you own a 7mm drill bit? my spice racks use red 6mm wall plugs, but things with heavier loads I design for brown 7mm plugs due to their ~50% better tensile strength

a mutual highlighted that DIY bit sets often only have even numbered sizes, wondering if I should offer to include a (~£2) drill bit (design load for RawlPlug UNO plugs below, because I know how to have fun at parties)

someone on the etsy seller forums has hit a snag due to stratospheric growth - £72,000 on 1100 orders within three months of opening i'm near tears here trying to figure out why etsy can put thousands of eyes their (similar niche, also UK) way and after 2 years send maybe 3 or 4 every day my way

made a handful of spice shelf frames (availability of these in silver will start improving from Sunday) also some little brackets welded to a bar to act as a paint drying rack as I keep running out of room when spraying

bit of a thread on "rustic" i'm not a huge fan of "rustic" aesthetically, but mostly I rail against its use on #Etsy where it's in danger of becoming a byword for tat - a scaffold board from the builders merchant smeared in a coat of coloured wax & called "rustic shelving"

but scaffold board shelves are having a moment. Which is why I spent last week tarting up a scaffold board - but properly, with stain, and seven coats of Danish oil even done well i'm still not a huge fan of the result - I probably won't be selling scaffold board shelves any time soon

after another night of insomnia it seems I managed to doze off on the sofa, woke up to find the cat had clambered aboard & was fast asleep on my chest just felt an oddly sweet & positive start to the day

an idea I've had rattling around for a while: these wraparound scaffold board shelf brackets going to move somewhat cautiously ahead with them as I've a terrible track record predicting which ideas fly

desperately sad story about Ranulph Fiennes far too many unknowns to see what's happening - at best it's a disinherited step child kicking off, at worst a horrifying illustration of the vulnerability of older people in dysfunctional families www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

theguardian.comRanulph Fiennes’ stepson appeals for funds to ‘locate and safeguard’ the explorerAlexander Millington-Cotes is concerned for welfare of the 82-year-old, who hasn’t been seen in public for two years

stuck for gift ideas? while a #handmade steel & oak toilet roll holder would be a.. bold.. gift choice, I also make spice racks, towel rails, coat racks, key holders Welded in a leaky Cheltenham greenhouse, I haven't set fire to my shoelaces in weeks customsawdustco.etsy.com #UKgiftAM #UKgiftHour

spent some time today cutting, cleaning, and drilling the steel for some toilet roll holders and a small towel rail Welding tomorrow, then solid oak shelves will be fitted (don't worry, that's not my blood in the background)

today #welding some 3mm (& 2mm wall tube) with this beloved baby Parweld inverter while horrifically sleep deprived 2.5mm 6013 electrodes, 75-85 amps, and a fire extinguisher nearby *because I've learnt that particular lesson*

Pleasingly busy weekend sales does mean facing the horror that is the Monday morning post office queue New towel rail, toilet roll holder, spice rack, and key holder shelf all headed to new homes this morning

been doing some final assembly of coat racks - a new design closely related to the key holder I already make, but here with fewer, chunkier hooks & a longer throw between the hooks & the shelf v small initial batch of 10 in black or white, 25-45cm, aiming for next Tuesday launch
