Obviously this is racist and gross, but it's also shockingly historically illiterate? No one who has taken a single high school world history course would deny that Arab culture has produced incredible science and literature. This is why we need basic humanities education.

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

I appreciate that people want a new Mass Effect, but the future where fans advocate for the work itself and not the people who make it is the one the vultures at EA want. If you'll take it however you get it, they can keep treating people who make what you love as expendable.

kotaku.comWhat Does It Even Mean To ‘Save’ Mass Effect? - KotakuThousands of fans are rallying around a campaign to save the series after BioWare's shutdown, but what does that look like?

Why are AV amps/receivers so huge? They're powering like two bookshelf speakers. Why are they all eight inches tall? I have a little FOSI desktop amp that's like 5" wide and 1.5" tall. I'm looking to upgrade that but everything is so ... huge.

Excellent thread

I know the vast majority of you are here because of my art, but I need to share a thread about Brazilian politics because what we achieved today deserves to be mentioned and celebrated I'll do my best to be objective for those who have no idea what was happening

Huge congrats to Brazil on defeating a blatant coup attempt by the US government and one of our more grotesque tech billionaires, and to Serbia's students for succeeding in removing Vucic from power. People the world over are getting sick of fascist regimes, and I am extremely here for it!

The most likely future by far for Mass Effect is that EA ends up in Chapter 11 bankruptcy filings, the brand is sold off to some random other company, and we get some garbage shovelware game with the Mass Effect name slapped on it like six to eight years from now.

The teenager who lives next door is having a Halloween party, which I don't mind. I like that France is slowly embracing Halloween. What I do mildly mind is that teenagers are idiots who don't understand that randomly mashing all the intercom buttons in an apartment at 11:00 PM is not great

Passed 40,000 words in my new manuscript last night. Averaging a bit over 2,000 a day, which is just fine by me (goal is 1,500). Please enjoy this passage that might not make the final draft, but with which I made myself laugh! #amwriting #darkfantasy #firstdraft

Being a writer means sometimes you change a word six times, not quite happy with any of them, and then realize the correct choice is to delete it entirely. Not so different from being a coder, sometimes, actually.

I have indie published six books and each one cost me dozens if not hundreds of hours of my time and thousands of dollars of my money to get out the door. I'm not talking about the writing. I'm just talking about the other stuff. Not every author has the wherewithal to do that. I'm very lucky.

At the prefecture to get my new visa. It's every bit as 60s Brutalism depressing as one might expect from Paris's largest immigration center. Also love that there are a bunch of LED screens, ostensibly to show who's next and what window to go to, but they're all off and it's just being called out.

Context for Americans: This is Avi Lewis, the leader of the NDP (basically what if the DSA ran as a separate party), and husband of Naomi Klein. He isn't going to be in power anytime soon, and this is him saying something he knows would be popular to his base without having to actually back it up.

It's aggravating that this thing that will never happen is valued at $1.2bn and has raised tens of millions of dollars, but if I wanted $2m to start a small software company, I'd have to spend four years living on ramen and hunting for traction while I proved it could 10x investor value.

So, Chris, what bizarre way did you hurt yourself today? Well, I lost my balance pulling on a sock and bruised the shit out of my finger by accidentally crushing it against our wicker laundry basket. Thanks for asking!

Replaying SilkSong. I'm at Lost Lace again and I still think her third phase is just terribly designed. I don't mind speed increases or additional mechanics. The first two phases are great. It's all the shit flying around the screen. My brain's not capable of differentiating between dangerous & not

I think they tell everyone not to smile on their passport photos because everyone rolls up to customs looking miserable and exhausted after a multi-hour flight, so it's a more accurate picture.

A thing a lot of people under maybe forty don't know is that it used to be if you came home and someone was watching a game on TV, basketball or whatever, you'd always go "what's the score?" because channels didn't figure out that they should leave the score up all the time until like the early 00s.

I think the thought process was because standard def was so low res for so long, it made more sense to show the action rather than a score bug that had to be pretty big to be readable. So it's not indefensible, just a weird little lost-to-history interaction that basically never happens anymore.

You've surely seen this going around the timeline already but it is really worth actually watching the video because holy shit ...

This really has very little to do with this post (which is a lovely drawing!) but I was in a shoe store with Charlotte yesterday and holy shit are short, chonky, black boots back in for women. They had like four *aisles* of the things. It's like 1993 all over again.

Chris B-Eeeeek!-ler 👻 reposted

Most of these game studios are not closing because they're not PROFITABLE. They're closing because they're not showing GROWTH. The system of investor capitalism is ruining literally everything you care about.

Somewhere in a Roman brickyard, around 1800 years ago, a fresh tile was drying peacefully ahead of firing - until a dog trotted straight across it. Centuries later, the tile has made it into a museum: not because of an emperor, but thanks to one dog who accidentally walked his way into history. 📷️me
