Every day I take a walk through Reed College Campus in Portland. It's a beautiful spot with a very natural canyon running through it. They have three banks of Level 2 EV chargers spread around. Today 50% of them were in use.... just steps away from all this!

During the Biden years when we got solar, battery backup, EVs, heat pumps & induction range friends asked why we were spending money on it. Now they get it. Reducing our fossil fuel use helps the environment while reducing demand for others. Research shows gas prices would be even higher otherwise.

Gas-powered cars no longer dominate global auto sales. For the first time since the 1920s, they account for less than half of new vehicle purchases worldwide. As EV costs fall & fuel prices rise, the shift to cleaner transportation is accelerating, signaling weaker long-term demand growth for oil.

Consumers are *really* bad at expressing their economic well-being, it's basically just whatever pump prices are. Which is why maximizing EV share of the vehicle fleet is so important for breaking the carbon political economy in the US. Any other solution is doomed.

Feels like not enough people are aware of how fully cooked the internal combustion engine is. My mum's old diesel Honda currently costs £120 to fill up, on which it'll do just under 300 miles. My sister's EV costs £6 for a full charge which will take her 280 miles.

What a symbol of the times in America right now. An empty diesel canister and a hose for siphoning that I spotted on my morning walk. Someone was possibly walking through the neighborhood looking for a diesel pickup to siphon fuel from but abandoned even that.
