The day I stopped describing my game collection as a backlog and started thinking of it as a library was a good day. A library is not only filled with books you have read. It should be filled with both books you have read and those you want to read. Same with games.

@dark1x.bsky.social Just wanted to say - your take on the death of physical games on this week's DF weekly... You captured how so many of us are feeling. Thank you for articulating so perfectly what this means. Not just for hardcore collectors but for everyone who buys games. We all lose out.

Among the many reasons the death of physical games is bad (ownership, price, monopolies, 2nd hand, preservation, etc.) another small loss is the end of buying games as gifts for people. That simple act of choosing a game and seeing the joy as someone unwraps it... www.eurogamer.net/sony-ending-...

eurogamer.netSony will no longer produce discs for PlayStation games starting in January 2028, citing "consumer preferences" as the reason whySony is ending production of physical media for its PlayStation games at the beginning of 2028.

Fast forward a few years and IO make their 'Perfect Dark' while Amazon push out some lazy Bond game that no one likes.

James Bond game sequels will be "done by MGM and, theoretically, by Amazon Game Studios" says Jeff Gattis, GM of gaming at Amazon "We did not [make First Light]. We do have a stake in it because we now own the IP. But that IP acquisition happened after the First Light IO deal was already done."

Thanks @frankcifaldi.bsky.social and @theycreateworlds.bsky.social for this episode, it was fascinating and really challenged some long held assumptions about why Sega floundered in the mid 90s. The context of global economics and the nuances of US Vs Japanese accounting were interesting!

In one of the most shameless instances of union-busting Rockstar Games fired 30+ IWGB union members for NO OTHER REASON than to terrorize & silence them. Join the IWGB protest! Demand reinstatement! 📅 Thursday, 6 November 🕙 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM 📍Take-Two House, 30 Cleveland Street, London, W1T 4JD

Maniac Mansion on the NES. The idea that you could freely roam this mansion and interact with virtually everything blew my 10 year old brain. I still get that feeling from some games now, 30+ years later.

What video game ignited your passion for gaming? (GIFs only) There's only the world's blurriest gif for it on Tenor, but yeah, Pitfall II: Lost Caverns was mine. It felt like I was exploring a world full of secrets to be found.

Spare a few mins and lend a hand with this, peeps. It's the kind of thing that a stand needs to be taken on so it doesn't become (increasingly) normalized.

...but we applaud our cultured brethren who binge true crime docs on Netflix every night.

Playing video games is not cool and it was a mistake to elevate this anti-social pastime that mostly involves engaging in solitary fantasies of domination and violence into a respectable hobby.

Post a game you got for Christmas. Double Dragon for Gameboy. Christmas 1992, aged 10. I woke up ridiculously early on Christmas morning, maybe 4am, found this in my stocking (we had them in our bedrooms) and then played this on my Gameboy til morning!

I've played Nier Automata through twice and absolutely loved it. A game that has unquestionably stayed with me in many ways. Meanwhile, Replicant has been on my rainy day list for a long time. Always had this nagging thought that I'd unfairly compare it with Automata and therefore not like it...

I realize this question is opening a can of worms but how long is it before Nier Replicant...gets good?

Anyone finding the #DragonQuest II HD 2D remake a bit… basic? It looks and sounds beautiful but the story and mechanics feel very limited - especially after Octopath Traveller II (which had one of the best turn-based combat systems in recent years). dragonquest.square-enix-games.com/games/en-gb/...
