Thanks to the magic of save states I finished Sonic Spinball, a game I had as a kid but was never able to beat. (There wasn't a lot going on during the second half of that WS game...) It's not that good!

That said, it was my first exposure to the idea that a pinball table can have actual goals besides just staying alive, which was a fun thing to learn about. I never got good enough to put that knowledge to use, but hey

On a whim I booted up Tears of the Kingdom tonight to finish cleaning up all of the caves, using that phone app with the map. I was impressed that I had found all but six of them without a guide! I was less impressed that one of the ones I had missed was...in Kakariko Village

I know the battle against Christmas season expansion has already ceded a lot of ground (who waits until Thanksgiving anymore?) but whenever I see a store put out the displays before Halloween, as I did today, it still feels wrong

while you port and emulate games, I ported Jira to my PSP

Today I saw a guy walking his dog with the leash in one hand and his phone in the other while also wearing a baby on his chest. He had a little baggie of dog shit too, which he somehow held between a couple of fingers at a distance from all three. Applause-worthy pedestrian

if you're planning to play fortune's weave and you want to do all four part one paths and you're looking for a recommended order, might i suggest: cai, leda, dietrich, theodora good escalation of complexity and lore stuff imo

another suggestion: if you're planning to do all four part twos after doing all four part ones, do them in reverse order! (ABCD in part one, then DCBA in part two.) that way it gets harder as you go, because your units from earlier clears are probably weaker

It’s nice to have my decision to leave Epic so consistently and repeatedly validated like this!

based on the subtitles "scribdoon" appears to mean "write it down," which seems like the kind of thing that guy who made shit up on scots wikipedia would've come up with

I imagine it's probably pretty hard to do barks for Fire Emblem characters, especially the more one-dimensional ones, but it always seems like the writers are having the time of their fucking lives

e.g. you might have someone whose entire deal is "likes food" and you need lines (often multiple) for - I defeated an enemy - I'm about to crit - I leveled up (good) - I leveled up (bad) - Help me with this link attack - I learned a skill - I mastered a class etc. And they generally nail it IMO

During Shenmue's development, there was probably a meeting where they decided not to let Ryo eat the potato chips or the chocolate bars (even though he can drink the sodas) to mitigate scope

Yesterday my phone had a lock screen message telling me an OS update was available. Later in the day, a notification banner said the new update would install overnight. When I first looked at my phone today, a dialog box told me the OS didn't update. Then, just now, I got a lock screen message…

Experimental post: The Duality of Whacka In the Switch version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Whacka can finally be fought, and has a suspiciously specific 108 HP. The game both offers a ridiculously simplistic explanation for this as well as a complex one steeped in Dharmic symbolism.

I actually literally do not think they realize what they've done here. Sonic isn't just a game with fans. It's basically embedded in the fabric of the internet. Since I clicked the link ten minutes ago, two THOUSAND more people joined. And it only has five channels to post in and four moderators.

I'm on my third route through Part One of Fortune's Weave and I'm still having fun but I do think it's probably good that there are only four of these and not eight like they originally planned 😅

I wonder how many Zelda concerts they could have booked in one city and still sold all the tickets It looks like they’re doing three shows in NY at Carnegie Hall and four in London at the Royal Albert Hall. Those all sold out. Could they have sold out six in a row in NY? Ten?

The power of advertising: if I had a car I would rather go bankrupt from an accident than buy insurance from Liberty Mutual

I was in San Diego for the first time earlier this year and went to a game, and when Miller gave up a run the guy next to me and I were joking that he apparently is mortal after all. Easy for him to have fun with it because the Padres still won, but he’s probably having a rough night now haha

Jacob Geller is no longer a part of MinnMax. He won't be on content moving forward and we won't be publicly airing this week's episode of The MinnMax Show. We're in shock and deeply hurt. Thank you for your patience during this sensitive time.

this is so good

we have a shitload of Sargent in Boston already but I wish we had Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose...maybe the Tate Britain doesn't have enough Turners yet and would accept a trade haha

The Yankees and Red Sox have Stanton and Crochet respectively on their wildcard rosters even though neither has played since April...

Fortune's Weave is already very long, and I'm making it longer because I refuse to advance past the battle prep screen until I get through a full loop of its theme

I thought my problem with FE would be choice paralysis, but it's actually "I'm worried I forgot about a mechanic so I'm not sure if I have more weekly tasks to complete or if I'm good to head back out to the world map" paralysis

This problem lasted all the way through the end of my first path through Part One. I went into the final battle thinking "Ah shit I forgot to do that temple thing again"

The enemy is too strong! I hate to call upon this accursed power, but perhaps we must resort to the demonic artifacts held by our young Flame Lord: Cai's Power Tools...

"the next chapter for [studio]" is the sort of euphemistic headline that usually hides grim news so i'm glad it wasn't that

I almost never play two big long narrative games at the same time but I'm unwilling to drop either Fire Emblem or the new Trails remake so we're just gonna keep seeing how that goes. So far: I am pressing the wrong button a lot
