Pretty cool how just using the computer the way I always have has suddenly become a precious snooty pose. I can't help it, I'm effortlessly elite!

dame@dame.is

my nuclear-grade AI hot take that’s sure to get me cancelled until kingdom come is that refusing to use AI at all is rapidly becoming an extremely privileged lifestyle choice that feels social justice-y while actually being the complete opposite

Ensign Chekov is of course his Forever Role, but don't sleep on Walter Koenig in his terrifically chilling turn as a psychic Hitler on Babylon 5

Jesse Thorn@jessethorn.bsky.social

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

With the Cheesecake Factory in the news, I think it’s important to remember that in 2012 founder and CEO David Overton poured millions of his own money into building a new masjid for the Sufism Reoriented new religious movement, intended to be used 700 years from now when their guru is reincarnated

Amongst my dad's LPs are two copies of Genesis's Selling England By the Pound because he had the foresight to know he was wearing out his copy and he'd need a another to keep listening to it. And I get it. The answer to "what record should I listen to" is so often Selling England By the Pound.

Okay wait so is THIS what Trisha Paytas is? Is she a podcast person? Is that why I have to see her name every time she gets pregnant?

Vulture@vulture.com

Hila Klein accused husband Ethan Klein of an affair, and the couple’s podcast staff is standing with her. Here’s everything you need to know about the Kleins, h3h3Productions, and how Trisha Paytas and Hasan Piker are involved.

We're dipping into the Flying Boat well today on French Fuck Friday! Here is the one Bleriot 5190 ever built, a four engine flying boat mail-plane. If ugly planes could kill, this one might actually be responsible for killing its designer! 👇

The Bleriot company struggled after the First World War ended. By the early '30s it was on real thin ice despite landing a contract for 40 Bleriot 137 bombers. With the depression beginning to seriously bite in Europe, Aeropostale's success in transatlantic mail with the 5190 was a ray of hope.

Aeropostale was so pleased that they ordered three more 5190s, but due to interwar France being Like That, the order was cancelled right after the firm borrowed the money to build them. The company was bankrupted and aviation pioneer Louis Bleriot died of a heart attack soon after at age 64.

Damn, if only there were some sort of Aeronautics and Space Administration at the National level that could be put in charge of this kind of thing.

Space Force recently tried to book rides for three future satellite missions, but #SpaceX declined to offer its services, as it doesn't want to sell the Falcon rockets anymore. No other rocket companies offered to take them either. #EverythingIsFine

I’m at the dermatologist for medical reasons but of course the practice is largely oriented toward cosmetic stuff, so the tv in the waiting room is promoting that with a bunch of footage of women getting syringes jabbed into their faces. Cronenbergian.

Krull. On paper, it has everything: cosmic fantasy setting, bizarre creature designs, friggin sweet legendary weapon pulled out of lava, a John Horner score… But it leaves me cold thanks to plodding pacing and confused focus. Yet I think of it often.

In honor of the final nail being hammered into Mass Effect's coffin, let us remember the time I botched the lesbian vampire date quest which I did not even know was possible to do.

Playing the Mass Effect 2 remaster as female Shep and I just blew it on the lesbian dating simulator mission with the psychic vampire so bad that Samara yelled at me and the game crashed

Very proud of my child for independently discovering the labor theory of value when she observed this morning that Mr. Krabbs loves money more than SpongeBob but if SpongeBob didn’t cook krabby patties Mr. Krabbs wouldn’t have any money.

How many line wives were once themselves bucket bunnies? How much of the outpouring of resentment stems from seeing too much of themselves in the bucket bunny, too much of their own life that has slipped away, too many paths not taken?

Thanks to @orbgazer.bsky.social I was reminded of one of my favorite cultural artifacts of the Atomic Age. “Well your money’s not here, it’s in Convair’s house that’s right next to yours. And the Lockheed house, and Mrs. McDonnell-Douglas’s house, and a hundred others” — Jimmy Stewart, probably

Ooh baby that’s all I’m seeing. Please check out this insane corporate propaganda video starring bomber command veteran Jimmy Stewart delivering his personal endorsement of the Hustler youtu.be/ua-hF85Pl1Q?...

Just when you think the GOP can’t get more disgusting, Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy releases an ad in which his opponent’s mother calls her a liar—the opponent’s mother who hasn’t seen her daughter in decades because her pedophile husband was molesting her. Today’s GOP in a nutshell.

The famous sparking and arcing electrical apparatus of the reanimation scene in Frankenstein (1931) were reused from the film Just Imagine (1930), a science fiction comedy where they appeared as... a reanimation machine which revives an oafish Swedish man (El Brendel) in the far off year 1980

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.
