i’m always sorry to inflict sy onto some girl when he’s binghe obsessed, but it is very funny for the girl he’s going out with to scroll thru his pictures with growing confusion
i do love when authors do cameos between their non-fantasy and their fantasy series. i love that sign is happening and then in the background apparently there's just. (gestures) fuck-or-double-die undead spirit realm drama going on????
morak's short 3 chapter venture into yaoi before pursuing longterm serialization is apparently taking place in a universe that also has vampiric political melodrama.
you can tell endosaku makes me go sicko mode bc i *almost* care that endo is taller than sakura. i can see its utility, on occasion. the appeal of teacher sakura being shorter than half his students is undeniable, even i must admit.
to clarify: sakura knows what endo is doing bc he does it regularly. sakura does NOT know why he does it beyond assuming he just likes making a menace of himself (also true)
i do wonder if during the original run of osomatsu-kun if the popular top/bottom dynamics would have been different. and don't tell me they weren't fujoing out in the 60s. people have been fujoing out since time immemorial.
every matsu looks exactly the same. there's no "this one bottoms because he's shorter" right out of the box, but you can 1. see which personalities are characterized most broadly as "bottom/top" personalities and 2. sometimes see people retroactively applying differences in height and body type.
in a series where every guy is the exact same height and body type, has the exact same face, has essentially the same haircut, etc. there is still an established character that almost universally gets hit with the shota beam and i just think it's SO interesting.
i think its the amount that goes unspoken, the amount of space left to misinterpret between them because they assume the other person will understand. yknow.
"yuri is bad because it panders to men"
well as a man if they were pandering to me it would be butch-on-butch sucking and fucking all the way down and that is clearly not the way it is.
but honestly i think if you're a writer. beyond the question of "does this actually integrate well with the story" is the question of "do i care whether or not it integrates with the story"
you are allowed to have your darlings, especially if you build a good structure otherwise.
i feel like a "they actually met long ago" plot twist CAN hit really good, and does sometimes but it tends to be overutilized as a flat explanation for why one character likes another character
MURDEROUS LEWELLYN. i think part of the reason it works is because the point of the twist is not to explain why they're in love, but to more broadly explain what the fuck is wrong with both of them.

i was going to say an example of something i really like that i think executes pretty decently on this is reunion (not yours kafu sorry) but then i remembered it ISN'T a plot twist.
also the meeting wasn't "we saw each other once when i was little and it changed me forever" it was "we met each other under horrific circumstances that broke both of us and spent months and months rebuilding each other from scratch before being broken all over again"

it's presented upfront as part of the tragedy that this guy doesn't remember the last months he spent with his grandfather, or the person he fell in love with. it's also straightforwardly part of the plot that this guy is trying to remember, rather than tacking it on at the end.
books that make you feel like you’re going to have to roll up your sleeves and fuck the headstrong debutante yourself since no one else here is going to do it

there are specific moments that highlight to me how much i am loved, or that make me bubble over with affection for them, but there's not like. a moment where i fell in love with my friends.
also: it really cheapens the relationship when handled badly. ah yes they love each other because they... met as children. rather than because of the bond of mutual love and trust and respect they formed with each other through time and hardship. like ?????? huh?????????

it's like the backup plan for when you can't write in an actual reason your characters would have chemistry or be attracted to each other. it's like giving the mean seme a tragic backstory instead of giving him any actual redeeming qualities.
i feel like needing a good "reason" why your characters like each other is an understandable but ultimately kind of meaningless simplification of human emotion.
i could not tell you at all why i love my friends. like there wasn't a specific moment or a specific thing they did that made me love them

listen i get not liking when a character turns out sadistic but being shocked by the sadistic disposition of a character whose introduction was ntr'ing one of his friends is like. i think a failure of reading comprehension.
