NEW: Under AG Pam Bondi, the DOJ has dropped 23,000 criminal cases — including hundreds of investigations into terrorism, white-collar crime and drugs — while prosecuting 32,000 new immigration cases in just the first six months of Trump’s second term.

Worms in food. Medical crises. Measles outbreaks. Malnutrition. Several deaths, including one ruled a homicide, in the last few months alone. The reports out of the nation’s largest detention facility are horrifying.

The MN state official non-partisan budget forecast now includes an AI-impact section related to state productivity and GDP. Nothing in the revenue losses section for the destruction of human payroll (yet)

You've probably been following the story about fraud in MN. I wrote about the people who provide services who are being driven into bankruptcy, thanks to the Walz' administration decision to hire Optum AI to screen all payments. It's a disaster.

It instead received $22,000, David M. Perry writes. If nothing changes soo...

lol… total disaster for GOP if he wins by anything less than 12 pts. A +10 swing to the D’s

The AP has called VA-07 for Matt Van Epps, the Republican nominee. He is leading by 6% as the count winds down (93% reporting, but all of Nashville in, so his lead likely expands a bit more). The GOP won the district by 22% in 2024; certainly enough of a swing to provoke cold sweats among GOPers.

Two KFF findings Republicans might want to consider when deciding how much they care about the looming 100+% premium spike: More than 1/4 of farmers and ranchers are marketplace enrollees. Almost 1/2 of enrollees are small business owners or work for them.

Unlike many of the Medicaid cuts in the Republican tax and spending bill, which are delayed until after the midterm election, ACA premium spikes due to expiration of enhanced premium tax credits will hit January 1, 2026.

Cutting federal funding for Medicaid is a choice to cut health coverage. Hard stop.

Larry Levitt@larrylevitt.bsky.social

Some Republican ideas for cutting federal Medicaid spending are complicated, with indirect effects. Take, for example, limiting provider taxes. Cutting federal payments for Medicaid expansion isn't complicated. It would lead clearly to reduced coverage.

This opinion doesn’t count because they didn’t say he was a “very fine” judge. [sarcasm]

NEW: Fourth Circuit shoots down the Trump administration’s efforts to appeal Judge Xinis’s order requiring it to facilitate the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. “We shall not micromanage the efforts of a fine district judge attempting to implement the Supreme Court’s recent decision.”

Judge Alsup also ordered the federal government to rehire thousands of employees who were unlawfully laid off from six major federal agencies based on a "sham," in his words. Expect this aspect of his decision to be quickly appealed (which he invited, sardonically). But obviously, it is a huge deal.
