Nightmare journey home. Missed the tram (by seconds), walked to the station, missed the train (by seconds), got later train, it terminated early due to ill passenger. Trying to get home for my son’s birthday. He’s 21 today! We’re headed to a Japanese restaurant for dinner.

“Dave gets on the piss”: Edition #229 Northern Estates Shiraz 2016 NMIT (TAFE) students studying viticulture, winemaking and wine marketing produced this drop, which I picked up by chance at a local NQR store for $7 yesterday. Amazing value! Deep, rich, balanced. If you can find this, get it!

I hesitated posting this as I would like to go back and buy more. But look, you’re important to me if you’re reading this, so my loss is your gain. Go get some!

“Dave gets on the piss”: Edition #228 Kaiora Bay Pinot Noir 2022 From Otago, NZ and made for Aldi by Minchinbury (owned by Pinnacle, which is owned by Endevour, which owns BWS, Dan Murphy’s, ALH hotels etc). Light bodied, easy drinking, 89/100 About $18 at Aldi

The result is a sea of interchangeable $15 bottles and growers pulling out vines. Endeavour didn't kill wine. It just made most of it taste like a quarterly earnings target.

They have net debt of $1.9bil, their underlying net profit is down 14.8%, and now they’re selling assets. Can you tell how much I detest them? Anyway, I’ve probably guaranteed I’ll never get a job with them with this post, but I’ll survive. Not sure the wine industry will though due to these fucks.

Endeavour didn't ruin Australian wine by accident. With Dan Murphy's and BWS dominating retail, it became a gatekeeper. Winemakers now sell on Endeavour's terms or not at all. It squeezes margins until small producers make wine to a price point instead of a place.

It fills shelves with house brands dressed up as boutique labels, and it has trained shoppers to see wine as a number rather than a region or a winemaker.

Goodnight all. An image from my front doorstep. It’s 2am, thunder is rumbling and rain is falling, but it’s warm enough to be standing out here in a T-shirt.

Sorry for the sneaker post because I know most of my followers are not sneakerheads. But come on! 👏New Balance.

At the risk of getting technical: In the last 24 hours: 1. iPhone 11 through 16 are apparently vulnerable to remote attacks. 2. SSL certificates are broken until browsers remove eMudhra CA. 3. PHP >9 vulnerability CVE published (tomorrow).

So until this all gets fixed: USE A VPN!!! It’s not a surefire solution but it will help. And really try to avoid hotel and public wifi. Do not do any banking or anything meaningful on networks you don’t know. Thank me later.

When did life get so much fucking admin? Right now I need to: Build a work roster for two stores Pay our water bill Pay the mortgage Sign up for some thing a mate suggested Contact that mate to sort out catchup plans for tomorrow Respond to four emails. It's too much shit. Sorry.

“Dave gets on the piss”: Edition #222 Two cleanskin Chardonnays tonight. One from South East Victoria and the other from Mornington Peninsula. I won’t do tasting notes as they’re not available to you (unless I decide to range them). I detest Chardonnay. I know others love it, but I do not.

“Dave gets on the piss”: Edition #221 Juicy! Medium bodied texture, balanced acidity and fine grained integratedtannin. At $39 I rate this highly. I’d score this 94/100

I found a voodoo doll covered in pins on my doorstep. Lucky me, they used an acupuncture technique and I’m feeling better than ever.
