Bolsonaro, Vucic and Orban out, Flamingo and Cockroach Revolutions, French uprising and Iberian housing movements, Nepal and Bangladesh popular insurrection, Iranian and Serbian movements, these too are heralds of the current moment. We are once again in a time of movement and revolution

If we continue to put our faith in science, we may soon be able to produce both grapes that make wine that tastes like brownies AND blondies. Wow.

french protests make very clear how much u.s. protests self-restrain and how bizarrely obsessed we are with the fear of being demonized by entities that are demonizing us anyway

Even if you think that Israel's destruction of Gaza has not yet met the legal threshold of genocide you should recognise that Israel's government and a large share of the electorate are set on the physical destruction and removal of Palestinian people between the River and the Sea.

I am excited to see where the narrative goes from here, excited to spend some more time with bonus eps, and grateful to this great spinner of tales both familiar & new to me. Nice to get caught up by learning more about Beefheart (with whom I was pretty obsessed in HS) than I have in 1 go previously

Im sure it is very easy to, it any given time, to argue that it is the wrong time to cut off israel. Im sure you can keep making that argument week after week, month after month, but then you rub your eyes and its been three years and gaza and southern Lebanon look like this. Was it the lesser evil?

A lot of people have reverse-engineered their entire understanding of 🇮🇱/🇵🇸 specifically to defend Joe Biden in online arguments c. February 2024 and it all ends up being fascinatingly weird.

It's hard for me to say if I had some existing inclination towards a brisk 3/4 setting before I was 16, but even if I did, 1960-64 John Coltrane (and co) certainly cemented that in my aesthetics as home. Happy 100 to the best guy. Listening to this centennial on WKCR connects me back to being 16...

and finding WKCR (I didn't know it previously) for the Duke Ellington centennial in 1999. Hurray for them both, hurray for WKCR special broadcasts!

In honor of Lorem's 30th birthday, and with the blessing of his loved ones, I'm sharing this piece that I wrote, somewhat by accident. It's about Lorem, but also about turning disabled grief into action. Please take the trigger warnings (at the top) seriously, but I hope you will read if you can.

just-following-up.ghost.ioSome thoughts on direct action, and my friend Lorem, on his 30th birthdayMy friend Lorem died this week. A few days later, I was supposed to speak to a group of community organizers as part of a panel about Long Covid and direct action, and how we can center access for tho...

I see some people out in NYC today wearing Dallas Cowboys jerseys and I think about my grandmother. She grew up in Manhattan and got married at ~20 to a guy from Dallas. She lived there a couple years before divorcing him and coming back to NYC. She never gave a shit about football as a kid…

But after getting divorced she became, and made both of her subsequent husbands be, ardent NY Giants fans (starting in the 1950s) because of how much she hated her first husband. I appreciate how much she committed to the bit over 60+ years. I want Betty to be happy, so in that regard, go giants…

Every time a right winger points and laughs at a socialist who was born rich, it should be understood as a desperate attempt to justify their own moral failure to themselves. If you grew up rich and are now a leftist and someone points that out, the proper response is: “Yes I am. Why aren’t you?”

All rich kids should be socialists. It is good actually. www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/never-apol...

Sometimes it's August and you think about October. You realize that that's in two months, and that doesn't seem possible, but it will happen nonetheless.
