Oof, what if we did good things for people instead? Read a book.

This is just to remind myself how much I hate the NY Times and their anti-user bullshit, on top of their terrible reporting. Tried to read a recipe, but it said I had to sign in to see it. I have an account from ages go for the crossword so I logged in.

This is this shit our capitalists have the production system tuned to. Serving ads and trying to ensnare people into more of it, rather than making a damn pumpkin chickpea curry recipe accessible.

At the same time that they publish a story about the congressional Dem's report on Trump's 20+ rape allegations without using the word "rape" once. Fuck these people.

So now I'm realizing I need to unsubscribe to whatever it subscribed me to. I go to account settings and find an email subscriptions thing that shows every possible email list with either a plus next it to subscribe or a checkmark showing you're subscribed. You can click the plus, but not the check

To unsubscribe, I had to go into one of the lists, click on the latest entry, scroll to the bottom to find an Unsubscribe link, then scroll down past 2 pages of trying to get me to connect a Facebook account, Apple account, etc, to finally find the 3 it subscribed me to, and click "Remove".

It showed me a damn pop up with a "Let's go" button, which I later realized was subscribing me to 3 email lists. On hitting "Let's go" it showed the same damn blurred out recipe with great news that this one time only I was lucky enough unlock a 1 week trial! Fuck that.

The World Series is a lesson in Florida politics. It was cheaper for Brewers' fans to fly down and watch the game in Tampa than in their own ballpark. $2300+ for a ticket in Milwaukee and $517-603 in Tampa. Cheaper to fly and watch on the road than at home. (1/x)

Now if we can just get liberals to embrace a @mattpolprof.bsky.social style Liberal Socialism, we can really start talking about Liberty.

Liberal Currents@liberalcurrents.com

We have offered many philosophical formulations of liberalism, from @paulcrider.liberalcurrents.com's Principles of Liberalism essay in 2017 to @sjshancoxli.liberalcurrents.com's essay in The Reconstruction Papers. Today @adamgurri.liberalcurrents.com looks instead at ordinary life under liberalism.

Everyone should read these threads I did about industry lobbyists and the EPA and understand them. Take the time to see the unambiguous evidence of what's happening now at this moment inside the EPA. Please retweet them. Please read them. Each one of the threads. It's happening in slow motion.

I know absolutely nothing about Lula except that i saw someone share a clip on insta of him in celebration kissing a trans woman politician on the cheek and oh my god is that a radical act for a politician in 2026 so lets fucking go

Wondering if one of the keys to getting liberals to understand how people "vote against their own interests", is to get them understand how the cultural hegemony has the liberals voting against their own interests for a capitalist system.

Both sides supporting the capitalist production system that gives them no choice. Or at best a homeopathic choice diluted to irrelevance by a system where 1 or 2 people control more wealth than the entire bottom 50% of people. This is clearly "against their own interests" is it not?

Pointing out that people, who engage with politics a few hours per month, can be fooled into accepting foul behaviors with false promises is met with accusations of excuses and calls for more shame. Whatever the cause, it's certain the Democratic Party played no roll in it. Republicans are worse!

This group of consultant brain defenders who come around every two years to shame people into holding their nose and voting against their values, cannot fathom that there is a mirror process on the other side doing the same.

It is not excusing the racism that obviously exists to point out that other factors also obviously exist. If nothing else, the idea that it's just racism is a dead end. What do you do now if everyone is racist and there is a racist side promising them racism? Shame obviously 🙄

Somehow a lot of folks seem to think they will shame their way to solving racism. Pointing out that shame is the least effective means of behavior change and often results in doubling down is met with orthogonal claims of supporting Trump, being comfortable with the harms, etc.

A couple days ago, when trying to discuss reasons why many voted for Trump against their own interests, I literally had someone yell at me something like: "The PMC are actually the only good people left!"

There is a strong Blue MAGA contingent here now; it seems the rumors were true. There's a big desire to think that racism is the only reason people could vote for Trump. "We told them what would happen!" Buddy, your bsky account with 200 followers didn't tell them shit.

Instead, Libs agree with Milton Freedom's braindead claim that voting with your wallet is the closest we can get to democracy, without doing the simple math that this means a billionaire has billions more votes than you.

Money is not abstract, even if it's not real. Money is a claim on labor. A billionaire has more claim on labor than you, so we have a huge chunk of labor doing shit for them. Building mansions (instead of affordable housing) Building luxury jets and SUVs (instead of public transit)

Now investment firms are ditching green energy, pivoting back to fossil fuels, and literally writing that it's because it was less profitable. While China has leapfrogged the entire world by focusing on producing what is needed.

They'll see stories of piss bottles covering the ground outside the Amazon facility as drivers have to dump them to avoid being punished more for making management's failure, and workers pain, visible and think about how they had to hold it in a boring meeting.

Libs will tell themselves that we need to accept climate change will take decades or centuries to solve without acknowledging the reason is that the people have no say over production. We have the technology. We just produce bombs instead.

Liberals agree with Grover Norquist's lie that capitalism is about liberty, usually without knowing why they think that. Most people who have actually worked for hourly wages know how ridiculous this idea is. "Voluntary employment" is just as ridiculous as "bootstraps", but is widely accepted.

But the PMC, being comfortable as the one working class segment to be bouyed by the neoliberal turn, think we're referring to that one annoying boss they have to avoid.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.
