Health policy, global health, pandemics -- and a bit of scuba and sports. If you're wondering about the quote, it's Edward R. Murrow. Painted on a wall in Camden, Maine.

On the superficial side in the US…beer, bread (used to be all white foam), coffee, absence of dog crap on streets (pooper scooper laws). More profoundly, this…

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

When Grammy-winning musician Rhiannon Giddens begins playing “Old Corn Liquor,” a traditional Black American folk tune, acclaimed Chinese pipa virtuoso Wu Man recognizes similarities to Chinese pentatonic music and spontaneously joins in. The joy on their faces says it all.

I've worked with a great group of colleagues, at Pax sapiens and beyond, to develop recommendations to help correct the misaligned economic incentives that punish low and middle income countries when they report disease outbreaks. Delighted that our work has been published in Think Global Health.

thinkglobalhealth.orgCould Economic Incentives Encourage Faster Outbreak Reporting? | Think Global HealthA new funding mechanism could speed up early disease reporting, which could prevent outbreaks like Ebola from spiraling out of control

I know this isn't the point of the post, but seeing the goal from this angle makes it even more amazing. I can't even SEE the space far top corner, much less imagine being able to hit it.

I guess you don't get where he is without whatever competitive sickness makes you want to rub it in the face of random shit talking fans in Columbus Ohio but Messi in MLS is so funny

The narratives about Dem factional warfare are so tired. On Tues, Abdul El-Sayed won the primary in Michigan…and Mark Warner won in Virginia. Are the Dems the party of El-Sayed OR Warner?? No, we’re the party of El-Sayed AND Warner. This diversity is a strength.

"The politicians basically serve the rich, the wealthy, and their self-interest." Listen to this man in Nigel Farage's constituency.

I couldn't read this without posting about my marvellously talented niece, Becky Goodman, and her show "1 Pill. 2 Pill. Red Pill, Blue Pill" a musical parody of The Matrix at the Fringe Festival.

Delighted to have been proven wonderfully wrong so far by kilted piping Scots, orange-clad dancing Dutch, rowing Norwegians and more...plus the graciousness of so many hosts in all three countries. Maybe even Gianni and Trump can't kill the WC spirit after all. Long may it continue.

I think we'll have two World Cups: one in Canada and Mexico that's happy, expansive and inclusive, like this video. And the other one in the US that is oppressive, dark and muted.

Fantastic work. Should be really influential in policy discussions.

Had a great time at my book panel at @healthjournalism.org, discussing my findings from Coverage Denied with @usha.bsky.social and a great audience. If you’re interested in reading my analysis of US health insurance barriers and how they burden patients and their physicians: a.co/d/07W4SeVu

I wonder when the news will emerge that there was a small group of shadowy traders who bought relevant stocks heavily, or sold oil short, right before the announcement of the two week pause in fighting.

We've never been as close to repeating this national shame as we are today. And I fear for tomorrow. Remembering is crucial.

Rep. Judy Chu@chu.house.gov

On February 19, 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed E.O. 9066, authorizing the forced relocation & incarceration of more than 125,000 Japanese Americans, solely because of their heritage.

This GOOD BOY ran onto the course during the Women’s Cross-Country Skiing Team Sprint event, crossing the finish line and being automatically recorded by OMEGA’s photofinish camera 😆

Can we retire the word “detained” to describe people held behind bars by ICE. “Detained” is when you couldn’t get somewhere on time because your train was late. These kids held by ICE are imprisoned.

So true. Because every 5 year old is going to react to seeing their friends being disappeared by saying, “But he violated Section 42.394(c) of the Code of Federal Regulations, so I guess it’s ok that I can’t play tag with Liam any more.”

Gonzales on Liam Ramos and his family: "They're not gonna qualify for asylum. So what do you do with all the people that go through the process and do not qualify for asylum? You deport them. I understand that 5-year-old and it breaks my heart. I also think, what about that 5-year-old US citizen?"

The Macclesfield win had everything. Massive underdog? Check. Obscure nickname? Check. Goalscorer with bandaged head? Check. Field so small the goals weren't even flat? Check. Fresh faced local kids running onto field to celebrate? Check. Just fantastic. #FACup

LBJ: bleeding heart liberal and complete ruthless bastard on tactics for getting legislation done. Winning combination.

It’s 2025 and children of color are still having the same experience. Even worse, they have to fear being picked up and separated from their parents.

It's only because Americans -- in an act of shocking disloyalty to our Dear Leader -- tend to notice the price when they stubbornly insist on buying food on a regular basis. They should really learn to live without as it distresses him so when they disagree that prices are plummeting.

The thing I find so ironic about Andrew Cuomo's attacks on Mamdani is that Mamdani's vision sounds so much like Cuomo's -- Mario Cuomo's. Here's his speech to the Dem convention in 1984.
