So sorry for your loss.

George Takei@georgetakei.bsky.social

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

The @savethehellfire.bsky.social is also once of the lovelist walks on a balmy day.

Tuatha@tuatha.ie

Given the time of year, I thought for this week's edition of our Monument Monday newsletter we might visit one of the places that always comes to mind when we think of haunted and cursed places in Ireland – the infamous Hellfire Club on Montpelier Hill in the Dublin Mountains.

Sad to hear he has passed away. Such a wonderful musician; I feel so fortunate to have heard him live a few times, most recently while he was based at @ucddublin.bsky.social mentoring students in music. RIP.

Trump is literally waving at imaginary people now. On his way to another hate rally in Kansas, he suddenly stopped and started waving and saluting at people who weren’t there. Yes, this is real. And thank you for that perfect finale zoom-out, Mr. Nice Cameraman.

You can be rightly proud of all that you achieved with this incredible project, Anand. I look forward to seeing what you do next to progress this agenda.

An announcement. There will be plenty of time to reflect on what we've achieved, and on the fantastic colleagues who have helped us achieve it. But for now, sad news ukandeu.ac.uk/announcement... 1/2

Given the views in some quarters that Ireland should have a citizens' assembly on the Unity question, perhaps it would be worth following how this Cyprus process plays out for some possible pointers....? en.politis.com.cy/in-depth/cyp...

en.politis.com.cyFirst Citizens’ Assembly Targeted for Late 2026 or Early 2027Alexandros Lordos told CNA that the aim is to convene the first Citizens’ Assembly by the end of 2026 or, at the latest, in early 2027.

Depressing to see the lack of serious engagement with this, yet again.

Jack Bailey@jack-bailey.co.uk

I worry that Labour are making a trap for themselves on electoral reform 1) SV *is not* a form of PR. So would do nothing to account for our fragmenting politics 2) Opting for SV would just rehash the referendum on AV, which reformers overwhelmingly lost www.politico.eu/article/andy...

‼️ A new paper with Patrick Fournier and @zeynsom.bsky.social is now out in @wepsocial.bsky.social! We examine citizens’ perceptions of parties that combine left/progressive stances on some issues with right/conservative stances on other issues - which we refer to as ideological inconsistency. 🧵
