Earlier this year, Dr. Jane Goodall sat down for an interview for Brad Falchuk’s new Netflix series, Famous Last Words.
The premise of the series is to interview people on the condition that the interview not air until the subject has passed away.
On the eastern edge of Glasgow Green stands this memorial and a low stone wall along the edge of the Clyde. These are a reminder of a rather contentious structure built in 1796 and known as Allan's Pen.

It's built on the theft of other people's stuff and won't stop telling everyone how great it is despite all evidence to the contrary. It's already about as British as it could be.
I can attest to @erikaishii.bsky.social's joy at visiting Hobbiton in NZ. It is truly a wonderful place. Walking through the cutting from the visitor centre, I genuinely choked up and got tearful.
“I feel that as long as the Shire lies behind, safe and comfortable, I shall find wandering more bearable: I shall know that somewhere there is a firm foothold, even if my feet cannot stand there again.”
More later, but my love for LOTR directly led to a Middle Earth invitation & I’m emotional.
Hello all... I haven't been active for a week or two. I will miss my father. He was the rock in our family.
Devastated, but I am so happy I shared my life with him.

I managed to tell him the previous visit three weeks ago just after he had his stroke that I loved him and I would see him again. I still travelled up to be with my brother and niece and managed to talk to his picture in his flat.

Here's something you may NOT know about beluga whales: they have squishy foreheads.
This area is called the MELON, and it's a specialized organ filled with fat, oil & wax that acts as a deformable acoustic lens, focusing sound waves into the water around them.
But wait, there's MORE!
🌕BATS FOR BATS🦇
Unlike many countries, in Japan bats have long been considered auspicious symbols...their images used on everything from sword sheaths to kimono.
In China the word for bat (fù 蝠) was a homonym for 'wealth' or 'fortune' (fù 富), and over time the bat became connected to good luck.
The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot
A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead:

'What day is it?' asked Pooh.
'It’s our BIRTHDAY.' squeaked Piglet.
'My favourite day.' said Pooh.
Happy 100th BIRTHDAY to Pooh and the gang! 🎂🎉
Pooh and his friends first appeared on the 14th October 1926 in #WinnieThePooh by A.A. Milne.

😬 Katie Zacharia's first press briefing was brutally bad 😬
Trump managed to find a press secretary who can barely read, but she does have the number one qualification -- looking like Ivanka
Here's a supercut from Zacharia's first briefing, which made Karoline Leavitt seem like Ronald Reagan
All the leaves are brown
and the sky is grey.
I've been for a walk,
our balls are cold today.
They'd be dry and warm
if they were in L.A.

According to MIT News, Margaret Hamilton died at the age of 90.
"A profoundly influential computer scientist best known for leading the software engineering team at MIT’s Instrumentation Lab during NASA’s Apollo program".
This famous photo 🔽 inspired the For All Mankind character Margo Madison.
ah damn, RIP Margaret Hamilton.
she took safety-critical software engineering seriously, and got people to the moon and back.

So... another one of these trips back to Glasgow. Dad's had a pretty severe stroke. He's conscious, but word salad, right side of body effected... It's hard to leave him. He had a bad night last night. Difficult to travel back down south. I feel like the corner of Glasgow Central Station...
Empty.
A lovely thing to wake up to; all the art in my feed from @2000ad.bsky.social’s #DayOfDredd that I missed yesterday…
Still my favourite character — here’s a long thread of all the original Dredd art I’m lucky enough to currently own💥
So, Scotland update. My dad had a stroke. He's in the stroke unit and still really rough. Spending the day with him and the family that have managed to make it.
I don't think I'm going to make #DayofDredd tomorrow. Spending the weekend in Glasgow visiting my dad in the hospital... ☹️
But have fun everyone, stay positive and good vibes to all.
Remember... make fascism fiction again. ✊️
Barry Kitson & Colin MacNeil head a great line-up of #DayOfDredd signings at Forbidden Planet International stores in Norwich, Belfast, Manchester & Glasgow THIS SATURDAY! Don't miss it, citizens https://bit.ly/4gTHRAt
Good morning all... well, I'm having to travel up north again today... train booked last minute, as dad is in hospital, and it's not looking good.
God damn it.

This is *the* piece. Kate Manne, professor of philosophy at Cornell, speaks truth to the totality of failures at the university — and why students protesting the war in Gaza have faced far harsher consequences than any of the Cornell 7:

A little reminder that the Doctor has spent multiple lifetimes, battling evil world-challenging robots, in a whole variety of guises.
Take this shit, and fucking shove it.
The BBC's new director general has described a 50-minute AI-generated episode of Doctor Who as "pretty good," and suggested that the technology now enabled the creation of content "at the standard of a Hollywood studio." https://bit.ly/4rD8rmh
Reuters got some of the IPO docs. Anthropic is a total dog of a company. Spent $12.6bn to make $4.6bn in revenue in 2025, $7.33bn of which was compute costs. Operating loss of $8bn. Losses getting worse year over year. Amazing stuff
