For when? When it’s too late to do anything about it? What a dumb argument. I hope no judge falls for it.

Project Salt Box@projectsaltbox.com

"Modifying an existing building, the government says, is not the same as constructing a new one, and therefore does not require the same level of scrutiny. What a facility will do once it opens — and what pressures it will put on local water systems, sewers and roads — are questions for later."

There is no such thing as overly alarmist. If more people had listened to the alarmists we wouldn’t be watching our constitution be shredded the same year we celebrate the 250th year of the document that condemned all the constitution tried to protect us from.

Joyce White Vance@joycewhitevance.bsky.social

Not to be overly alarmist, but everyone should be worried about DOJ’s indictment of SPLC. Here’s why: joycevance.substack.com/p/whats-wron...

I notice this admin often uses “common sense” when they are making up numbers. This way, you can’t “fact check” them - they will just argue you don’t have common sense. Wonder if this will work with my bank when I tell them it’s common sense that I have more money in my account than they think

‼️Election administrators in Maricopa County, Arizona ordered staff to grant federal agents sweeping, unmonitored access to election facilities — including instructions not to record their actions — according to newly released emails. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

The great thing about America was the connection thru shared ideals, not common Northern European ancestry. What mattered was not your allegiance to a lineage or culture, but to our declared principles of governance. Otherwise, there was no reason to dismember the colonies from Great Britain.

Ari Cohn@aricohn.com

Before you are tempted to use "the Constitution isn't a suicide pact" ever again to justify whatever restrictions or government power you are after, think about what that argument enables.

How long before Christian nationalists in the admin accuse Catholics of being enemies of the U.S.? In our past, Catholics were restricted from coming here, kept from public office, physically and verbally attacked, all bc of their religion. The pope was called the anti-Christ. Have we not learned?

Scott Horton@robertscotthorton.bsky.social

Pope Leo XIV's top Middle East envoy rebuked Pete Hegseth for invoking God in justifying the US-Israel war against Iran. Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa called Hegseth’s actions “the gravest sin we can commit at this time.”

Such very lucrative occurrences are never coincidences. So the only right answer is corruption.

Robert Reich@rbreich.bsky.social

Donald Trump, Jr.'s VC firm invested in a startup that produces rare-earth magnets for military equipment. Months later, the Pentagon awarded the company a $620M loan. Remember that Don Jr. also has a stake in a drone company that recently received defense contracts. Coincidence? Or corruption?

My fear as well. “The Republican Party is telling us, with brimming confidence and zero shame, that it intends to make it harder for its opponents to vote and easier to control the outcome of elections. They are prepared to use every tool available to them — legal or not — to stay in power.”

In my darkest moments, I fear that this is how democracy dies. Not with a secret conspiracy conducted in the middle of the night. But with a brazen confession made public in the light of day. www.democracydocket.com/opinion/ther...

VARNEY: The Pentagon is sending thousands of Marines to the Middle East. Trump says he doesn't want boots on the ground, so what are these Marines doing there? SEN. JONI ERNST: Hahaha. Well, they provide a lot of leverage. I love the president when he keeps reporters on their toes.

I’m really tired of hearing why we should not tax cap gains bc people won’t trade or don’t tax billionaires because they’ll move. If they aren’t contributing substantially more (in real $) than we are losing in taxes, who cares. And I want a yearly filing proving their actual value vs loss in taxes

If we don’t even have the privacy about what happens inside our own bodies, don’t expect privacy anywhere else in the country.

The chaos across multiple airports is a totally unnecessary Republican-created problem. Dems have proposed funding for TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard, yet Republicans – who hold a majority in both the House and Senate – continue to hold these agencies hostage in order to get more funding for ICE.

This is who was deciding what would be funded. This is scary. Thank you for showing us what is going on behind the curtain.

Kristi Noem will go down as the most shamelessly incompetent and cruel Homeland Security Secretary in U.S. history. Firing her is not enough. NOEM, GREG BOVINO, and STEPHEN MILLER all must be held accountable for terrorizing and endangering the American people.

Why is always important to go back to original source or as close as possible. And how disappointing that journalists (or their editors) used quotations inappropriately - obviously without checking their source. Also, just because a famous person says something does not make it true or inevitable

People can cause good or harm. Most people will do both. If a person does 100 harmful things then one good thing, this shouldn’t exonerate them or excuse the harm.

Because there are plenty of others who would have done that one good thing plus 100 more good and only a few harmful things (no one is perfect). We need politicians and leaders who seek to do the most good and learn from failures. We don’t need those who cause much harm but do a few things right.

There is a very important reason our Constitution gives the power of the purse strings to Congress- a check on executive power. It is something we used to celebrate. I even recall a preacher using the separation of powers as proof that the founding fathers used Christian principles to write it.

Federal agents are pulling over off duty cops based on the color of their skin. This is not a serious operation to enforce immigration law. It’s a performative show of force and it’s gotten way out of hand.

It is important to acknowledge who is standing up and who is just trying to get by. Every day Americans are standing up while the powerful are mostly standing by. Why aren't law firms standing up and sending lawyers to Minneapolis. Why aren't the corporations speaking out? Why isn't the media?

For some reason Democratic leaders seem to prefer telling voters what they won’t be able to do, rather than what they’d like to do. If Hegseth ordered a war crime and lied about it, shouldn’t Ds try for impeachment? Put Rs on the spot. They might get a few defections. www.axios.com/2025/12/01/j...
