#FluorescenceFriday image from UAB undergraduate Aditya Pradeep, with @odrake.bsky.social. Red = tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) protein Cyan = DAPI TH is the rate-limiting step in the synthesis of dopamine, and is densely expressed in axon terminals from midbrain dopamine neurons in the rat striatum.

Excited to see our fMRI paper is out, led by Itamar Kahn’s lab. Our grad students, Amir Lawen and Bella Succi, in collab with Darcy Peterka, built a setup for simultaneous fMRI and dopamine fiber photometry in awake behaving mice. We learned some new biology too. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Voter registration deadlines are SUNDAY in Alaska, Rhode Island, South Carolina. And MONDAY in: Arizona, Arkansas Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee, and *Texas*. If you live in these states, verify your registration now, literally.

A few days of seeing sunrises while fishing in Louisiana is a pretty good life reset hack. A massive yellowfin tuna catch also helps!

Very excited to share our newest preprint, led by myself and Biostats PhD Student Jianing Yao, where we generate a three dimensional reconstruction of the human NAc to understand how cell type heterogeneity and topography change across the anterior-posterior axis. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

For non-developmental biologists: we don't think of ourselves as segmented (that's for insects, after all), but our nervous system is segmented. The forebrain is set up different than the midbrain, which is set up differently than the hindbrain, which is set up differently than the spinal cord.

Congratulations Jen! Excited to see all of the amazing science that comes out of this.

Stress can trigger symptoms in #schizophrenia. We've known that for decades, but not why. We found the chemical tags that keep the key stress gene #FKBP5 in check have worn away, leaving the #stress system switched on. Our latest in The American Journal of Psychiatry @apajournals.bsky.social 🧠
