A big ask, no pressure & I know people have better things to do but if about 15-20 people buy this from Blackwell's in the next few hours it's likely I'd have the number 1 & 2 books in their chart & that might be enough to finally persuade an American publisher to get my books out over there...

Tom Cox@dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social

2000+ Americans have bought this book on import from the UK. Many of them have told me they love it. Meanwhile, the UK publishing industry: "I am sorry. We can't sell this book to an American audience. They will find it too British." FREE worldwide delivery here: blackwells.co.uk/bookshop/pro...

So, a black man told fictionalised inspiring stories wherein he broke the laws of physics Which was framed as a lying by a genocidal, racist, lying press that hounded him to death Now they look bad, they're arguing that he was a bad guy, for once doing something his white colleagues do as routine?

Every single marginalised person that achieves a single degree of success, is liable to experience this exact process once these people decide they're too successful, visible, or popular for their "station" and need to be taken down.

If you hear someone accusing someone of being in the wrong bathroom... Accuse them right back. Make it humiliating every single time they try to attack a trans person in public. If you hear "She/he's in the wrong bathroom!" Announce, "So are you."

I'm not sure Labour actually want Union backing. Would they not rather the unions disaffiliate while ministers secure private backing from billionaires and right wing lobby groups, and for the unions become completely irrelevant, and powerless, to pursue the interests of their members?

I'm not sure 'I used artificial insemination on my 17th baby momma who is mixed race four times because I believe in the Great Replacement conspiracy theory' is entirely brilliant a defence against accusations of racism.

The Economist: "People say that you're a racist. What is the motivation for doing that?" Elon Musk: "My partner is... she's half-Indian and... I have four children with her. One of them was named after a famous Indian physicist. So I would say I'm not racist."

May I suggest that this is an example of the Meadows Effect, when an organised effort to harass and dogpile a vulnerable person into disappearing from public life or committing suicide is the desired outcome by the perpetrator? We are all Lucy Meadows.

Sometimes I forget trans peeps are the best posters on the internet, then someone like Vivian casually drops a line like this.

Nigel Farage is so rich that he doesn’t have to work, and can be a full-time mouthpiece across all media. This is his main advantage over working politicians who get a few soundbites a day. Without him, Reform probably drop off the radar entirely. He’s a human faucet for propaganda and bullshit.

Now Keir Starmer is (apparently) leaving politics, it’s time to reflect on his time by looking at how much his tenure as Labour leader aged him in comparison to other leaders. [Keir Starmer visibly aged 15 years since 2019] BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA …Arsehole.

Starmer and his cabinet ministers have been doing as much damage as possible this past month as a transaction that will be rewarded after they’re gone in the form of salaries and donations for whatever private interests they’re involved in after government. A 2 year roadmap squashed into 2 months.

After Starmer goes, the pace might slow down a bit, some theatre might be thrown about following proper processes, and things might look relatively normal again. But only because they‘ll once again have two years instead of two weeks, to get theirs at our expense. I hate them.

We’ve watched them abandon process to force through changes, mostly that benefit private tech and healthcare, thoughtlessly, carelessly, in as short a time as possible because if they don’t, their replacements will reap the rewards instead. Whatever Starmer doesn’t finish, Andy Burnham will.

I'm not sure it's what he was going for but my take away from Tip Toe is that Russell Davies would rather get lynched than have a conversation about his friends' bigotry. No wonder it's had such positive reviews in the Guardian, Times and Telegraph.

GREG DAVIES: seems like a kind of a shit task. Everyone just seems like they're going home normally. ALEX HORNE: well before you say that let's have a look at how Odysseus did. cut to panel of AJAX, MENELAUS, AGAMEMNON, and DIOMEDES who are all staring at ODYSSEUS with his head in his hands

The AI Churchill's face subtly shifts and changes because *multiple actors portrayed him in the training data* and Frida Kahlo is now a white zoomer with a painted on monobrow.

Are we okay?

[Keir Starmer glaring towards Zack Polanski with disgust and hatred in his eyes, red, sweaty, while Labour MPs seeking re-election wear fake moustaches and change the colour of their leaflets to green in desperation] -Current Labour local elections campaign

Kier Starmer represents people who accidentally drop racist comments and claim “silent majority”, who hide their views in order to have any friends at all. Atlas Shrugged Thatcherfuckers who would rather vote Reform than help anyone. I wondered why I recognised him, it’s because he’s THAT guy.

Logically he also believes that marginalised people are inherently undeserving. That disabled people can’t earn equity, that queer people choose the path of least success, that ethnic minorities don’t try hard enough. He’s a bigot because he believes the system works and fuck everyone who loses.

He may not be a right wing zealot, but the beliefs he has place him firmly on their side as a tool of continued oppression. There is functionally no difference between the continued belief in meritocracy, and fascism. Different starting points, same destination. Fuck this man and all he stands for.

He believes far right ideals have merit because they consolidate power and succeed by their own metric, leftist ideals have no merit by extension. Note his factions *immediate* vocal admiration for Trump’s executive orders and the formation of DOGE. They commended the ‘success’ but not the rhetoric.

At his heart, Starmer believes in the meritocracy, that it’s functioning properly in a just manner, because it made him PM. There’s no ethics or morality, only success, which is why he can ally with fascists. They have power, therefore they earned it. That it’s fair and right that they’re in charge.

You can edit history to swap the soundtrack for any two movies. The Matrix, and Shrek, because The Matrix needed an All Star Montage, and Shrek needed to end with Shrek looking directly into the camera as Wake Up played and we cut to credits.

Daily showers feel like such a privilege these days. I don't trust Jonathan, but, I do trust my nose. I *smell*. But not as bad as this bullshit.

Jonathan Portes@jdportes.bsky.social

Or maybe we shouldn't, because I don't think Dan's claim "everyone feels like they've got poorer" is actually true? Vast majority of people (80%) say they are very/relatively comfortable/can "comfortably cover essentials", and this hasn't changed much.

I reject any suggestion that I am involved in the throwing of piss filled water balloons at passerbys. My neighbour, Terry, is throwing piss filled waterballoons at passerbys, from my balcony, which I am allowing him to use, because it grants him a better view of the street. I'm on your side, here!

Royal Mail bosses have been deliberately missing targets, cutting staff from delivery offices & missing targets to “prove” their Universal Service Obligation no longer works - now our posties are being told to hide post, in order to cover up for failures of management at Royal Mail.

I say this with zero irony: if you are even tangentially a part of a retro video game community, it is your civic duty to push back against this company and shun anyone who doesn't. This is fascism tapping gently at the door and as soon as you let it in, it's going to invite its friends.

I don't understand why the response to billionaires threatening to leave over taxes is deciding not to tax them. Either way, they don't pay taxes, so society has nothing to lose by introducing the tax anyway.

If we as a country got here through, say, transphobia and racism, then opposition *has* to be opposed to transphobic and racist policies. Otherwise, it’s not opposition to fascism, it’s a competition to see who gets to be in charge while doing it.

Melissa Chan@melissakchan.bsky.social

Folks demanding political / ideological purity fail to see that this is no longer a movement belonging to the left / liberals. This is an opposition against fascism. By definition it must be big tent. Failure to grasp this: see divided oppositions in Eastern Europe as your failed examples.

It’s important to recognise the tools that fascists used to get where they are, and for opposition to be committed to dismantling those tools. Anything less is just authoritarian musical chairs. Right now, the fascism is fuelled by tech scams, religious money, xenophobia, and transphobia.
