Next two blog posts will be on Wildwood, then Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave. After that, I'll be going back to my "will post something when I think I have something to say" mode. Blog content will likely take a back seat in November for me so I can prioritize creative projects.

Been a crazy year with a lot more writing than I give myself credit for. Still got lots to go, especially on the creative front. I'm kinda worried about my NaNo progress this year, but we'll see how well I get into the swing of things.

Wildwood is a celebration of human imagination and a triumph of the creative spirit. Never have I felt so humbled, inspired, and at points outright baffled by the sheer amount of artistry on display. This is not only LAIKA’s best film, but one of the best animated films of all time. 10/10

Laika just dropped a masterpiece of animation (and the biggest middle finger to generative AI). Wildwood is the kind of movie that will make anyone fall in love with animation and the power of art. Please go see this.

🗣️📣 NEW BLOG POST ALERT!! This week, I examine why the length of video games have become such a large part of game discourse over the last decade and why we need to reframe how we think about how long games ought to be. Read more: www.derekexmachina.com/blog/2026/10...

derekexmachina.comDoes Game Length Really Matter That Much? — Derek Ex MachinaTo fixate on length of games is to disregard what brings us to video games in the first place. We play games because we want to experience something that activates our brain, our soul, our essence. Wa...

I had to go on Twitter to confirm this was real because Ship Awesome Games In A Weekend having a hand with six fingers was so on the nose I was about to pass out

This shit just writes itself at this point. Just the name "Epic AI MegaJam" is a joke that best describes what is going on with these companies.

‘Wildwood’ director Travis Knight on AI: “A pencil is a tool. A paintbrush is a tool. A 3D printer is a tool. A digital capture is a tool. AI is not a tool. AI can go fuck itself.”

Holy shit. A catastrophic loss for the industry. I'm speechless.

I'm aware Bioware had issues over the last decade or so, but I can't help but think that their closure is primarily a result of many bad managerial decisions. I wouldn't be surprised if the Saudi buyout was what sealed their fate.

Last I'll post about this, but Elon Musk disagrees with me. This means I am onto something, and I feel more valid in my opinion than ever.

I've had lower motivation to write lately, but I'm trying to get out of this rut I've been in, especially with NaNoWriMo coming up soon.

Just saw the new Street Fighter movie. It's fun but tonally all over the place. The animated sections are awesome tho. Makes me wish this was just an anime movie, tbh.

Nobody: Nintendo: Alright, so we're gonna double the length of our 200-hour-long game.

Suddenly feeling very sad and existential today. Don't quite know what I'm doing with my life and feel like I'm very behind on where I should be. Don't really know what to do about this. I feel so alone. :(

Likes, reposts, and comments appreciated as always! Really happy with how this turned out. I'm also already at work on the next blog post, will most likely be out next week.

the reason “AI will create so much abundance we will have a utopian society” rhetoric falls so flat is that the people building it will never, ever share their bounty unless it is taken from them and we all know it

I feel like I have so little free time between work, writing projects, and a modest social life and yet I still feel like there's so much I just don't have time to do. Really wish I could spend so much more time focusing on game dev or loc stuff, but I really just don't have the time.

I just constantly feel like I'm not doing as much as I should be. What little it feels like I'm accomplishing is already leaving me exhausted and little burned out.

Just finished Cai's route in Part 1 of FE: Fortune's Weave. 35 hours in so far and have three more routes to do. Loving every minute so far. Such a fun game!!

This sucks for many reasons. But I think it's worth emphasizing how selfish and duplicitous it is to go work with a public-facing, community-focused media org like MinnMax without disclosing this part of your past to them. (MinnMax confirmed to me they were not told.) Please support them if you can

Renee Nicole Good was a mother, a daughter, a wife, a neighbor, and a Minnesotan. Nine months ago, an ICE agent shot her, then allegedly refused a physician's offer of medical aid. Her family deserves accountability and justice. It's long past time.

Didn't see anything about this until this afternoon. Absolutely shocking and disappointing in the worst way possible.

MinnMax@minnmax.com

Jacob Geller is no longer a part of MinnMax. He won't be on content moving forward and we won't be publicly airing this week's episode of The MinnMax Show. We're in shock and deeply hurt. Thank you for your patience during this sensitive time.

Was checking Game Informer's video game release schedule because that's genuinely one of the best tools to keep track of upcoming game releases, but I kept getting 404 errors. Was wondering why until I remembered that their GTA VI cover story is today. Guess that crashed the website, lol.

Being seeing this trend making waves across social media, so I figured I'd make my own. These are probably the 9 most important games in defining who I am and playing a role in me developing my sense of self and personal taste in games and media in general.

Really happy with how this one turned out. I feel like the blog's been kind of going by the wayside lately since I've been focusing on work, traveling, writing for other projects, and getting sick. Still happy that I'm able to get something out at least. Likes, reposts, and comments appreciated! <3
