Detroit City Council's Denzel McCampbell rode two buses in to work with us this morning as part of the national #WeekWithoutDriving. Riders shared a number of things that need improvement - including timeliness, as evidenced by the fact that the Plymouth bus was a half-hour late. #DoubleDDOT

We stood with Mayor Sheffield to celebrate nearly 200 new bus shelters and benches at DDOT stops around the city, with 200 more planned next year. Riders shouldn't need to wait long for a bus - but they should have a dignified place to sit while they do. www.cbsnews.com/detroit/vide...

The past two weeks saw numerous expansions of transit across Metro Detroit, including - New SMART Route 500 connecting Detroit & Hamtramck - More frequency on the D2A2 express bus. - New SMART Flex service in Macomb County - More frequency and extended hours on 6 DDOT routes

Happy Labor Day! We were proud to march today in solidarity with Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 26 and 1564, representing our DDOT and SMART bus drivers. We also salute the transit workers in AFSCME, UAW, Teamsters, and other unions as well.

We're having another bird-dogging training this Wednesday at 5:30pm! This one will be hybrid, with the in-person option at TechTown Detroit. Let's hold our elected officials accountable on transit. Come bird-dogging with TRU!

Earlier this week, the TRU team was Up North riding and talking transit again! Megan, Farai, and Jerina were all up at Crystal Mountain for the MPTA state transit conference. We rode local BATA and Benzie Bus, meeting locals getting to work and some very friendly bus drivers!

These rural connections are a vital part of our transit service. Many people in rural areas cannot or don't want to drive, and many non-drivers want to visit friends or family in these communities. It's great that our region is breaking down these transportation barriers.

Want better transit? Then join the fight. Our next volunteer meeting will be on Thursday, August 13th on Zoom at 6pm. After the recent win for Wayne countywide transit, we'll talk about some next campaigns we're working on. https://www.detroittransit.org/event/tru-volunteer-team-meeting-70/

We now have election data by precinct, and the results are clear: Transit won big across all of Wayne County! This historic margin proves something: Metro Detroit residents want more transit. Now, we'll work to meet that demand.

Wayne County Transit Passes: a๐Ÿงต, 1/8 The Wayne County countywide transit millage passed yesterday, which means that for the first time since April 24, 1995, SMART's service area now covers every square inch of the tri-county area (Oakland went countywide in 2022, Macomb has always been countywide).

It's official - the Wayne County Transit Millage has passed! An overwhelming majority of voters, 67% in total, approved the millage. For the first time in over 30 years, each community in the tri-county area will be connected. Thank you for making better transit possible.
