Businesses don’t pay taxes, business owners do, on their profits. If they are rich, they can afford it. And if they are billionaires, they can afford anything.
Most billionaire wealth isn't in yachts or jewelry — that's just a few percent of it. Most is productive business capital: companies that employ people, build things, and fund research. Tax that wealth and you're taxing the businesses that employ us all. Cato's Adam Michel explains.
The robbery was the kid’s idea.
JUST IN: The police shooting that killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley as he sat in his mother’s lap in a Walmart parking lot in Senatobia, Miss., in June “was justified,” Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office said on Monday. Her office will not charge the white officer who shot the child.
Any analysis of our current troubles that doesn’t mention American oligarchy is laughable. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/18/o...

I want to be the first to use “Epistemic Grift”.
His use of ‘elite’ in this context is also telling. ‘Don’t buy stuff elites try to sell you’ is conservative epistemology. Trump is a mercantilist - but also a griftist about economics & epistemology. He thinks all ‘profitable’ communication and exchange is grifting. Elites grift by definition.
Those people should be banned from entering Canada
People in politics, the corporate sector and Alberta’s pursuit of separatism have described persistent efforts by figures in the U.S. administration to support groups seeking American expansionism and independence for Alberta. www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/artic...
It is appalling that we let such irresponsible people have so much money
“For months, Anthropic has been hosting private meetings like this one, shuttling in dozens of religious scholars from across the world, papering them with nondisclosure agreements and demanding that key aspects of many conversations remain confidential.“ www.nytimes.com/2026/09/29/u...
“I could annihilate an entire country. When you are a celebrity they let you do it. You can do anything.”
TIME: You said you might annihilate Iran TRUMP: Yeah, I would do that. It's possible. TIME: How can the president of peace be calling for annihilation of an entire people? TRUMP: Bc by annihilating Iran, we've created peace in the world. With Iran, I don't think you could ever have peace.
Great post.Alex’s juice is always worth the squeeze!
In which I explain why Canada joining Erasmus properly will a) require a lot of work b) not bring in any money and in the context of institutions being down $10B a year thanks to the feds, there might not be a lot of institutional enthusiasm for it.

What Canadians now see is that American politicians are not serious or courageous enough to be trusted.
Now that the House of Representatives is out of session until after the election, more Republican members will try to distance themselves from Trump. Do not believe a word of this. They were loyal until the very end, this is last minute tactics when they cannot do anything else.
Surprisingly naive today. Trump’s team doesn’t really believe their actions are likely to create a booming economy. They are transferring wealth to a super elite. And pocketing lots along the way. heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/september-...

I can’t teach students how to use the tools they’ll need in their career because we don’t know what they will be. I can teach people to be good philosophers, which is pretty rewarding. And a good philosopher can usually figure out how to use a tool. www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/arti...

“When you buy groceries, for instance, you give the store money and all they give you is food. Total rip-off. So we are looking very strongly into this Biden administration ripoff.”

Staples (🇺🇸) is now open for some ON teachers. How do prices stack up against the TDSB supply centre for classroom basics? TDSB: $290.38 Staples: $668.98 Staples Teachers: $584.56 But Paul Calandra took over the TDSB claiming financial mismanagement and Doug Ford wants you to #BuyCanadian. #OntEd
The Ontario govt took $60M out of public education and handed it to Staples. Tomorrow, 80K elementary teachers each get $750 of the misappropriated money to buy overpriced classroom supplies at an 🇺🇸 corporation. Please remember this the next time Captain Canada tells you to #BuyCanadian. #OntEd
