This is fucking embarrassing. We have the good fortune to live in a democracy and more than half of us can’t even be bothered to vote in the municipal election. Voting should be compulsory.

Missed this last week: Brendan Kennedy at the Star reported that iGaming, the government agency responsible for online gambling, secretly shelved a research study intended to track rates of problem gambling in Ontario when those rates were much higher than expected. www.thestar.com/gift-redeem?...

Got my Covid and flu vaccines this afternoon. Remembered to take an antihistamine beforehand. Will report back if it helps with side effects (the Moderna covid vaccine normally puts me mostly out of commission for the following two days).

As an RD who works with A LOT of people with GI issues, this was a great listen. Now I’m curious: if the vagus nerve was severed, would that prevent the progression of Parkinson’s from the gut to the brain?

Science Vs@sciencevs.bsky.social

Tons of us struggle with gut issues, or have turned to fiber-maxxing to fix our poos. So today, we're asking: How do we reach "poo-phoria"?? Wendy chats with neurogastroenterologist Trisha Pasricha to find out — it is SO fun 🧪👇 #ScienceSky open.spotify.com/episode/5UpE...

Wtaf. When I was a student the CRA accidentally gave me back $50 and then asked for it back. How does something like this happen??

James Andrew Smith@drsmith.bsky.social

Guy lies on his tax forms and gets $10 million dollars into his bank account from the CRA. And he wasn't the only one. Hello @mark-carney.bsky.social? Fix this.

FYI Southern Ontario friends: at least two of my local pharmacies in K-W have updated covid shots available NOW for all adults. (The "only high-risk groups" availability was slated to extend to later this month, but apparently they opened it up early.)

This is really, really cool. The URL *is* the document. So you can effectively do word processing in your browser... without it leaving your computer. Or... you can send it to others *in the URL*. This is really fantastic.

I emailed a doctor’s office this AM to confirm that a fax I sent yesterday was received. Got a reply saying that they need the patient’s full name and won’t release any info unless my name is on their chart. I just want to know if they got my fax or not 🤯

Hey, Canadians, does anyone have a 🇨🇦 web hosting provider they're happy with that doesn't cost megabucks? I was with Hypermart forever, then they got taken over by another company that's now been swallowed up by a different one I'm not impressed with.

Failures of privatisation. Royal Mail to cut up to 2,500 jobs Foreign-owned RM doesn't meet letter delivery targets even after regulator lowered them. Postage: 1st class, £1.80, 2nd class 91p. When privatized in 2013: 1st class 60p; 2nd class 50p. Poor service at triple price. Customers fleeced.

I’ve been asking council candidates what they would do to improve road safety, particularly for vulnerable road users. Two now have told me they would regulate e-bikes and scooters and not mentioned the dangerous driving I see daily of the cars and trucks that can easily kill pedestrians 🤯

Out of all the candidates there are only 4 I feel are potentially aligned with my values. We get 6 votes though so do I vote for 2 who are maybe not quite as terrible as the others or just not use those 2 votes?

The yip yip monsters on Sesame Street. My mom left me inside watching while she went out back to hang out laundry and said she looked over to see me standing at the back window sobbing.
