There are lots of ways to measure diversity, but looking at just the portion of councillors who are BIPOC, this is the most diverse group that Toronto has ever elected at once:

Ladies and gentlemen, I predict tomorrow’s instalment of “good morning / bonjour Ottawa” will be *exceptionally* mediocre

Note how the mayor-elect won by getting people in suburban wards to vote for them rather than by appealing exclusively to voters who live downtown *cough*

I am told that only a non-incumbent is "mayor-elect" after winning an election, an incumbent mayor who wins remains "mayor" 🤷‍♂️

Had he run for city council, he probably would have won and been well-positioned to run for mayor next time

Oh look, the thing everyone said would happen, happened. Thanks Neil.

Kevin Ashe has been reelected as mayor in Pickering Far-right city councillor Lisa Robinson, who turned local council meetings into a convoy circus and exposed other councillors and city staff to a torrent of harassment and abuse, will not be retiring to city hall

With 205 of 206 reporting, community organizer Emily Quaile has expanded her lead to 78% for OCDSB school trustee in west-end Ottawa since this panicked tweet from local anti-LGBTQ+ trustee candidate Shannon Boschy

Anti-ALTO high speed rail insurgent mayoral candidate Steven Leonard has been defeated by mayor-elect Ron Vandewal in South Frontenac

Strange but true: There are nine million other people who live in Ontario, in addition to the people who live in Toronto

I would like to thank my local municipal election worker for exclaiming “whee, democracy” in a monotone voice as the vote tabulator sucked in my ballot

The "loyalists" of course being a group of American refugees who fled to Canada seeking shelter from democracy

After a group of white supremacists gathered at the BC Legislature the morning after the election, I asked premier-to-be Lorne Doerkson about the incident and his plan to fight hate - you can read more about that here: thetyee.ca/News/2026/10...

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Looking at Pickering mayoral candidate Lisa Robinson's "endorsements" page on her website Literally just three endorsements, all of them are anonymous

Just realized there are *two* convoy-adjacent candidates running in Pickering who could split the far-right vote Shaun Rickard was one of the plaintiffs in a failed lawsuit against the federal government over the travel vaccine mandate

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

Alberta Prosperity Project’s Facebook page issues a new public statement this morning clarifying that their social media accounts are not being operated by unauthorized individuals:

Check out how easy this is.

Kansas Dem Sen. nominee Adam Hamilton on trans rights: “I don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself”

Checked out Lula’s Portuguese-language WhatsApp channel and while I couldn’t understand anything I was reading, I feel I came away with a better understanding of his appeal

Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe spending the final day before the election campaigning in the battleground neighbourhood of Rockcliffe:

As the #24in48 tour continues, Ginny and I have been knocking on doors in Rideau-Rockcliffe ward. It was great to visit with former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien. Thank you for all you've done for our country, and for your support in my re-election campaign!

FWIW, I’m seeing several ridings where you could make a plausible argument that Green vote splitting elected Conservatives, but even taking those into account, you still end up with the Conservatives winning a majority

The NDP, perpetually aggrieved by strategic voting, advocates strategic voting

It would be grand, then, if the Government of Canada would terminate any use of X/Twitter. And don't say, "Oh, we need it to get our messages out," because then you are "caught in a situation where we are reliant on one provider."

Mark Carney on what Elon Musk's throttling of Starlink means for Canada: "We do not want to be caught in a situation where we are reliant on one provider that puts Canadians at risk or compromises our sovereignty, our ability to express our values and live our values."
